23-year-old man injured in early-morning shooting in Hampton

HAMPTON

A 23-year-old man was in stable condition after being shot Wednesday morning and driven to a hospital.

The shooting happened about 5:30 a.m. after an argument at Rowe Street and Langley Avenue, police said. After the argument, the shooter left the scene.

Police said Wednesday afternoon that they arrested Carthone Emmett Mitchell Jr., 40, of the 1200 block of Rowe Street in Hampton. He was charged with maiming, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Mitchell was being held in the Hampton jail.
