5 cities at a glance: Norfolk city manager win unanimous support

Posted to: News

SMITHFIELD

City Manager Regina V. K. Williams received a unanimous vote of confidence from the City Council on Tuesday at its annual retreat.

"We're very pleased with the job she is doing," Mayor Paul Fraim said.

Councilman Barclay C. Winn said Williams is especially good at balancing budgets, and the next one will be challenging.

Last fall, Williams was criticized by members of a citizens group who wanted lower real estate taxes and were disappointed by her budget proposals. She also came under fire from residents and some council members for appointing a man convicted of manslaughter and drug dealing to head a law enforcement agency; he later stepped down.
