Actors Blair Underwood and Megalyn Echikunwoke will appear in Norfolk and Virginia Beach as part of a statewide tour to campaign for Sen. Barack Obama, according to a campaign statement.
Obama plans to be at a rally in Newport News on Saturday, the campaign announced yesterday.
Underwood and Echikunwoke are planning the appearances leading up to the Oct. 6 voter registration deadline, according to the announcement. They plan to talk about Obama’s plans for the economy and other issues.
On Friday, they will appear at 7:15 p.m. at Obama’s Richmond campaign headquarters.
On Saturday, they will headline a voter registration rally in Norfolk at 3 p.m. at Old Dominion University after stops in Emporia and Lawrenceville.
At 5 p.m. Saturday, they will attend a voter registration rally in Virginia Beach at the Campaign for Change office, 3613 Virginia Beach Blvd.
On Sunday, they will make stops in Alexandria and Springfield, the announcement says.
Underwood stars in “In Treatment,” and the drama “Dirty Sexy Money,” the announcement says. Echikunwoke starred in the first season of “24” and in “Who Do You Love?”

john edwards????
John Edwards has absolutley nothing to do with this election. Some people will post anything to keep of the subject.
For Aalto--A sampling of celebrities who promised to leave but..
Alec Baldwin was the loudest who during(one of his many) rant(s) promised he would leave the country if G.W. Bush won in 2000. It should be noted however, Mr Baldwin has since denied making that statement, then after denying making the statement, went on to say he never said he would "definately" leave the country. (Confusing, but it is Alec so...)
Robert Altman (who?) a film director said he would move to France. (He didn't.)
Pearl Jam's, Eddie Vedder also vowed to leave, but only made it as far as Hawaii. (not sure if this is due to a lack or resolve or an ignorance of geography)
The only person I know of who actually made good on the promise to leave the country if Bush was elected, is former President Kennedy's press secretary, Pierre Salinger (an interesting man but not much box office draw here) who moved to France where he died in 2004.
Talk about poor spelling
Talk about poor spelling and grammar! What's "hidig"?? and "am man"??
"Where is John Edwards Anywho? peace and out."
"He is currently hidig from cameras as he was caught lying by a tabloid mag."
"What's funny is the poor speller from below who endorses a change to our health care system wants to know where am man is who never did a thing in his life aside from suing your doctors. "
"Don't come down here w/o your swimmees on hon"

Re: RENO
No RENO, No RENO, No RENO. I agree with the comments by others, that actors, like everyone else, have a right to free speech and a right to vote just like ordinary citizens. Plain and simple. Everyone these days has some say, weather they flip burgers or own a mulit-million dollar estate. Everyone has a right to put in their 2 cents worth, but as for me, I see no problem with an actor getting the word out, supporting a candidate, or telling the general public that it's important to vote. So what if the actors coming here are helping out with a campaign..more power to them! They are in the public spotlight, and that can help a candidate, no matter what party they belong to. So what if an actor does not have a political background or an education in politics..one can study the issues and still be informed/expound on the issues. More power to those that step up and help get the word out. Oh, and by the way, I am a local actor with no political background or education in politics, and I vote, I am allowed to express my opinion, I am allowed to listen to whom I choose. No RENO.
one question Who are they
I am not trying to me a wise A$$. I just have never heard of them? what have they done
who cares
There is noboby less qualified to tell me how to vote than some elite hollywood type who has not one single clue how the rest of us live. Even Wilford Brimley.
i have not cursed or incited anyone so why the red line??
or do tell me what offense i created. cgmeredith@yahoo.com
glengotti must love me.....
you are so into it glen, thank you, you really have a way with words, i can't say enough about you - now when the heck are you gonnna get off the computer and pick up your youngin's? they're yours too big boy, lawyer said
don't care for whom they're shilling
I never once complained about the fact that they are campaigning for Obama. Neither did I ever suggest that they don't have the right to do so. I don't care what an actor's leanings are. It's the smugness they tend to have as they lecture the rest of America about international affairs, economics, etc. As far as not knowing anything about them, that's actually part of my point. I only know them as entertainers and THEY that know peons like me only know them as entertainers and that is the platform from which they speak. I stopped watching the Academy Awards years ago because I got tired of these knuckleheads getting up on stage and then spouting off about Tibet or global warming or whatever. You are being given an award as an artist not a statesman. Put a sock in it. I'm not saying they don't have the right to express opinions. I am only saying that simply being famous doesn't provide one with a better perspective. I'd actually argue it provides them LESS perspective, since they almost all live in bubbles, whether in New York, LA or Jackson Hole.
Uh huh
What happened to the "actors" that were going to leave the country if Bush was elected? Oh yea, they are just actors. Running off at the mouth with nothing intelligent to say and following a script for money.

If actors campaign for McCain you wouldn't have the first complaint. Actors are people just like everyone else, again I mention Ronald Reagan. You don't know their background, you actually don't know anything about them, but you condemn them for campaigning for Obaman. Sorry, but I think that's extremely shallow. Just my opinion, everyone is entitled to their own, even actors. Will be a sad day when we loose that right!
No surprise the V-P covers tripe and not the teacher's union
The VEA (Virginia affiliate of the NEA) sent an email to its members to wear blue in the classroom in support of Obama and directed the union's voter registration efforts be extended to those "you teach." You have to look in other media to find the story, which demonstrates the clear bias of VEA and why so many parents want vouchers to get the heck out of this totally corrupt system. Who cares about actors when your children's teachers are doing this? The V-P does.
again, a difference
The difference is that "doctors, lawyers, commanders, ditch diggers," etc don't have a ready platform to express their opinions. Also, when Warren Buffet talks about economics, I tend to listen. Ditto with other billionaires. Unlike actors, most of them have actually done something constructive in this world. After all, the average billionaire employs an awful lot of people. How many people have a job today because of Bill Gates?

Please don't get your bowels in an uproar. And I think you are getting a little carried away. From what I've read the 2 coming to support Obama, are supporting his plan. So what! The fact is, doctors, lawyers, commanders, ditch diggers, actors, Gates, Buffet, you, and I are all entitled to our opinion. Why get so excited about a couple actors? They are no different than anyone else, regardless of their salary, and look at all the billionaires who also speak infavor of candidates. Maybe these 2 are looking at future political careers. Personally I don't care if they are or not. Peace!
reagan
The big difference between Reagan and these clowns is thathe actually threw his hat in the ring and ran for office he did a lot more than just pop on TV and basically say, "Because I played Will Hunting I know more about education than you and because I played Jason Bourne I know more about intelligence and international affairs than you, so I am qualified to tell you for whom you should vote." Obviously I am paraphrasing, but that is essentially the posture these actors assume. These horses' backsides make millions of dollars pretending to live the lives you and I actually do. Consider: George Clooney got paid $3 million to play an Army Lt Col in 1997. In that year a real Army Lt Col made a base salary of about $60k. Clooney got FIFTY TIMES the amount the actual guy did (no I not and never will be an Army Lt Col - I was just making a point). I enjoy Clooney's movies but don't see where his profession provides him any more insight into international affairs than mine does. If anything, his provides less and my salary is a lot more pedestrian and my concerns more like the average American's.
ronald reagan
Former President Ronald Reagan was an actor. Remember him?
Actors & politics ?
Just amazing that the need to "support by report" done by the liberal papers, news, etc. They you get censored if you do not support their canidate!! Actors are coming to Virginia to swing the vote for Obama! Always the democratic way - get the actors publically involved and announce it, announce it announce it. This is not the academy awards but the presidental office at stake.
Why in the world can't we get past the Republican/Democratic games that are played and just center on the right man/woman for the country?
new definition
Irony: Multimillionaire actors living the jet-set lifestyle in Hollywood accusing McCain of not understanding the plight of the common man.
Actors?
Just because someone can pretend to be someone else in front of a camera, does not mean I am going to accept political advice from them. What a bunch of goons! I mean geesh, the guy at the local Wendeys flips hamburgers real well, doesn't mean I am going to listen to politcal advice from him either.
JEESH, get a grip
Hollywood actors
As if I would listen to them to decide who to vote for! Geesh people. Think for yourselves!
RE: hollywood
"Even if I did want their choice (and I don't) I would change my vote knowing that Hollywood is behind him,Hollywood has no grip on reality !!!"
And you know this because??????

Alice Cooper rocks!
My favorite Alice Cooper Quote
Apply this to actors too! - "If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are". -Alice Cooper
to Cigim...
Good Grief. Learn how to spell. On a side note, i find it hilarious that some people who posted previously on this article seem to think that the celebrities are going to be there speaking on their experience on politics. It seems to me that they're just offering their support. I'm sure if Jessica Simpson or Miley Cyrus went campaigning for Senator McCain, it would be quite all right......yeah, right...
Actor: Someone who is paid to pretend to be someone they are not
Who better to endorse a politician?
gooche' gooche' goo..OMG!
We couldn't have said it better - "Can't Wait til this circus is over". also gooche', we arn't not Bama disparangers, we are disparangers of the media hype and sad stancce of some so called intelectuals who are actors being tossed in front of our youngin's trying to suede them into their line of thinking, Hope to God Not. R these here actors being paid? most are. We deserve better respresentitives of the democrat party candidates. Where is John Edwards Anywho? peace and out.
Wow Im going....
I also heard Bill Ayers,Rev.Wright, Franklin Raines,Castro,Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong Il will be there singing we are the world!
