Alicia Wilson, a sophomore at Bethel High School in Hampton, lives on her computer.
She plays games, redesigns her MySpace page daily and prefers to talk to her friends online rather than in person. If she can’t get online at her home, she rushes to her neighbor’s to use that computer.
“My mother says, 'Get off, you’ve been on too long’ whenever I’m online.”
Alicia, 15, believes she is addicted to the Internet. And, according to some researchers, she might be.
According to netaddiction.com, symptoms include the need to use the Internet for an increasing amount of time, making unsuccessful efforts to control or cut back on usage and jeopardizing significant relationships, jobs and educational and career opportunities.
