Chesapeake man wins $575,000 - eventually - in N.C. lottery

Posted to: News

A Chesapeake man went to Moyock, N.C., for a barbecue sandwich in June and walked away with a lottery ticket worth more than $500,000.

But it took Willie Evans Jr. nearly four months to realize he had the winning Carolina Cash 5 ticket, according to a news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery.

He recently found the ticket and made another trip to the Border Station in Moyock to have it scanned. Turns out the ticket was worth $575,372.

Evans told lottery officials he’s still letting the win sink in but has plans to take his wife on a cruise.
