I wish you would join us
in the efforts to make this nation as great as it can be. I too, am a combat veteran. I am the son & nephew of combat veterans who came home & couldn't sit at the front of the bus or eat at the same restaurants as Whites or buy a home in a community they could afford because it was restricted or couldn't use the GI Bil to attend many state colleges because they weren't allowed admittance. I am the grandson of combat veterans who weren't allowed to vote, even though they could pay the poll tax & pass the literacy test. The Grandfather Clause, which stated 1 couldn't vote if their grandfather was ineligible to vote, kept them from voting. Since both their fathers had been slaves, they weren't considered human. I agree the 1 Drop law is stupid. A smart guy such as you could do a lot, to assist in the betterment of the USA. Our realizing the faults of the USA doesn't mean we don't love it.
The Supreme Court Refusing to Take a Stand on a Jim Crow Law
doesnt make the law right, morally or ethically. And yes, Obama chose to remold himself, to be more "accepted" in the black community. He states this himself, in order to avoid be seen as a "sellout". And calling his grandmother a "typical white person", is showing his arrogance and his bigotry, not his understanding. The reason he has mixed crowds is of course the result of different dynamics; he has over 99% of the shockingly monolithic black vote, as well as liberal whites looking to relieve their guilt, and any number of special interest groups looking to "change" the nation. Basically, liberals tend to see the US as a flawed, broken evil nation that needs to be changed, and conservatives see the US as an inherently good nation which has issues that need to be resolved. The difference in viewpoints is critical. As a LEGAL immigrant myself, I am proud of this country, served as a combat veteran, and dont believe we need socialism; I've seen enough of that already.
The 1 Drop Law
was upheld in 1986 by the the Supreme Court's refusal to hear a challenge of it in Phipps vs Louisiana. Obama doesn't deny his White heritage, on the contrary, he speaks lovingly of his mother & grandparents. His statement about his grandmother's having to face & deal with her own negative feelings toward people of color, wasn't hateful. It was truthful & understanding. He, wanted to better understand his father & know more of him & his side of the family. Part of why he is such a good father, husband & role model is because he felt he had to be all his own father wasn't. Only a person having illogical, unreasonable hatred for Obama can deny his many accomplishments. Obama is, indeed a unifier. If not, how do you explain the huge, mixed crowds that support him? Why are you so full of anger alex?
No I am sooo not with Rush
No I am sooo not with Rush nor O'Reilly! I am not far right at all! I was undecided for a long time. As a matter of fact, I usually vote Democrat. I live in NC and yes that is the general first assumption about a white person voting for McCain. If I express disagreement online w/ something re Obama, often there is a reponse that includes" face it a black man will be elected." Well..OK....But that does not have ANYTHING to do w/ my thought process. And yes I have seen it on the boards here and on the Daily Advance blogs( that is the local paper in Elizabeth City.) Now I do not know first-hand about the things that Rush and O'Reilly have said or did b/c I purposely do not listen to them. I think they are off-the-chart irresponsible and I refuse to give them the ratings by listening to them. I try to stick to the facts and read the editorials in papers but nothing too far left nor right. Every once in a while I'll listen to someone on the radio that is too far out there and my blood starts to boil so I go back to reading mainstream media. I too feel people not voting for the candidate I support are misguided! LOL! Whomever we elect, I will support. But there IS underlying racism
I wonder how many of our voters around here...
fall into this category? Take a listen and laugh like I did...
I can now see why people say only the informed vote...

The 1 Drop Law is Jim Crow and Slavery Law...
Do you pay attention to any other laws from those days, such as no motor vehicles in town after sunset? Then why are you quoting Jim Crow as gospel? Obama is considered black because he chose to be, that was his decision, not some "law"...read Obama's book, he'll tell you all about it. His whole life has been to reject his white heritage and loving upbringing, and to remake himself into some twisted version of his Kenyan father that abandoned him. Obama is not a unifier; on the contrary he has literally bitten the hands that raised him. Which is fine, but dont try to make excuses for Obama's actions. And PLEASE dont try to sell white Americans on how great he will be for us.
The 1 drop law
makes Obama Black. Custom also does. How many people do you think would accept Obama, with the features & complexion he has, as White? Mixed race people, through custom, if not laws, have always been associated with the race in which they appear to fit, the 1 in which they came of age & most of all, the 1 which was more accepting to their mixed heritage. Things are changing, so maybe 1 day, all will be accepting of a person regardless of what they describe themselves to be. When Obama was born & throughout his youth, things weren't as open & accepting as they are today. There were still states in which Blacks & Whites couldn't legally marry, or even live as a couple if they had married in a different state.
Obama is either lying or not very intelligent
Obama's illegal alien "aunti" has been living in public housing in Boston, sent him a contribution over $200 for his campaign which he just now refunded, and he didn't know. Why would you vote for someone this ignorant? Or did he lie? His "aunti" said that she's not allowed to talk to the press until after the election. Why? Because he knew she was here and his campaign told her not to.
Louis Farrakhan calls Obama the messiah! Obama has not denied this. How do you Christians feel about this? I know that if I were him and someone said that about me, I would have protested long and loud. Any Christian would be very upset. Not Obama. LF is a Nation of Islam and Chicago politician. Obama denounced LFs message about Jewish people, but not the man himself? Why? They're friends. They do things together, like attend political events and support each other. Obama was trained in speaking by Nation of Islam. Check Newsmax.com if you don't believe it. Why would you risk America for this man?
Fullhouse, I don't know why you think
Obama supporters are calling you a racist. I know a lot of McCain voters and I have never viewed them as racist. Misdirected, but not racist. But I read a lot of complaints from the right that they feel as you do and I think some of that comes from Rush and the boys putting out that talking point (or shouting point). It is sort of like the phony attack on Christmas campaign that O'Reilly tried to drum up support for. To me it is an effort to get vast majority white, Christian population to feel like underdogs, which is inherently ridiculous. Of course race is an issue to some on both sides, but certainly much less so than most people seem to believe on the right, and to be fair, on the left. So please understand that even though I don't know you from Adam, I will never call you a racist. And I am sure most of the folks I have worked with over the last few months would feel the same way. May the best man win, then we need to support him, because, brother, he is going to face a huge set of challenges.
I like some of Chris Rock's work.
I wonder if he'd consider voting for Allan Keyes if he were on the ticket.
In response to the comment
In response to the comment that Powell has to endorse McCain...uh, he endorsed Obama.
On another note...I think it is a shame that if your vote is going to McCain you are automatically considered a racist. I KNOW how I've lived my life. I was not raised in a racist home and I am not raising my children in a racist home. BUT because I choose to give MY vote to McCain I am considered racist. On that point alone. That seems crazy to me. It is disheartening to me to see what is happening in this election. I know plenty of whites supporting Obama but not may blacks supporting McCain. Do I think all of the black Obama supporters are racist? No. Some-absolutely but not all. So why am I assumed to be racist b/c I do not feel Obama can lead our country? I don't see that he has tried to put a stop to the division, I think he is reveling in it. it simply is not right nor fair to call people racist because they do not feel Obama is the right choice. There are enough people that have never voted that are now voting for Obama to predict that Obama will win Va and NC. Probably more voters fall into that category than the one that has people who are not voting for Obama because he is
Just the facts on Obama
For those of you that support Obama, here's a link that I hope VP will allow:
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/10/21/the-comprehensive-argument-against-barack-obama/
There are more than enough clips of Obama speaking his views. I totally believe in facts, and Obama shows me that there is nothing about him that would rate him as ready to be President of the United States.
Hypocrisy part 2
"How can an admitted cocaine user become President?
Um...HELLO, he DID, eight years ago! But it didn't seem to be a big problem then."
Let's not forget how the right gave Bush II a pass on his military recorded twice. He deserted from his cushy national guard post but avoided being inconvenienced by this desertion due to family connections . The second time around due to their mud slinging at John Kerry, a real war hero, we had to create a new word for this hypocrisy, "swift-boating." Now, in 2008, they claim that a military record is critical . . . This illustrates the rights hypocritical and Hobbesian memory perfectly, "nasty, brutish and short." Why does anyone take them seriously?
exerpt from a blogger
Yes, at the foundation of any endorsement lies policy agreement. I agree with Obama about a woman's right to choose, and that women should be able to sue their employer if they are not being paid the same wages as men for doing the same work. I agree with him about the need to get serious about improving education. About the concept of talking to enemies. About the need to re-adjust our tax code. About the need to get out of Iraq and focus on Afghanistan. About the need for more people to take personal responsibility for the way their children behave. About the need to keep Social Security accounts from being made susceptible to the whims of the stock market. About the need to focus on the creation of green industry. About the need to expand health care by lowering premiums. All of those are good ideas. Some will make it into law, and some will not. But I admire his agenda, and the way he articulates it.
To baccion44545
I am very much like you (make a bit more though)...but unlike you, I haven't lost my conviction...I will do the RIGHT thing and vote for McCain.
OBAMA
I would rather have a root canal than go listen to anyone who backs this untested candidate.
Vote for the right reason and that is the security of this country.
Obama is not what he seems, He is slick and smart but not experienced in world affairs and this naivete could cost us dearly.
Vote McCain, Vote Experience and you will be surprised by the moderate changes that come with this vote.
BARACK OBAMA IS A MARXIST
Socialist is too mild of a word to describe the Marxist Obama. Obama has already implemented his first Marxist act, that being Obama's US Senate bill S2433 that Obama is currently sponsoring in the US Senate. Obama's S2433 is a global MARXIST WEALTH REDISTRIBUTION scheme. The tax money that is squeezed out of us by Obama's S2433 will add an "ADDITIONAL" 845 Billion in taxes on an already over taxed America and Obama's S2433 will consume seven percent of our GNP. The money from Obama's S2433 will be given to the corrupt United Nations, specifically for "The UN Global Poverty Act". Your money will then be REDISTRIBUTED to despicable third world dictators. This is factual and can be verified, just Google "Obama's S2433" and read for yourself how Obama is working to REDISTRIBUTE your hard earned money to the tyrants of the world. Obama has also vowed to eliminate the reduction on the death inheritance tax that President Bush implemented so he can get his sticky hands on most of your inheritance money. Know who to curse when your love ones leave you something and Obama's Marxist government takes most of it from you and REDISTRIBUTES it to the lazy, unproductive losers of the USA and the
Huh?
How can an admitted cocaine user become President?
Um...HELLO, he DID, eight years ago! But it didn't seem to be a big problem then.
if
A man has one black parent and one white parent why does that make him a black man instead of a white man?
its funny
If I didn't know anymore about a person than I know about Obama, he would not be qualified to cut my grass, much less be in the Senate or President.
Every King Needs A Court Jester.....
The Obama campaign must be sweating bullets over the Tidewater area vote. First a blizzard of visits by The One, now he brings his plucky comic relief to town. Whats next? Card tricks?
Another Obama stand in
All we need now is for him to tuck us in at night and burp us too.
What does Chris Rock have to
What does Chris Rock have to with the politics, government, and me?
What part does he play in my government? Is is running for office?
Is it Chris Biden? Chris Obama?
arguement
you can argue the point Obama is black and you can argue it just the same he is white depends on which side of the argument you want to be on.i look at trust experience and integrity.the only quality i have seen in Obama out of those three is integrity.you cant tell me that you sit in a church 20 years and don't hear the sermons that in itself is a lie.if he says he didn't he is an idiot also.and not just the rev wright thing he has too many associations with questionable people.sara palin has more experience than obama does.what do you actually know about obama,he is still a mystery to me.he can buy all the air time or spend all the money in the world that dose not tell me one thing about him except that he has millions coming in from people that he will have to eventually pay back in one way or another.he could have picked a better entertainer to represent him though, chris rock is funny but a bit too vulgar for my liking.
Stick to your profession
Another comedian trying to impart his political agenda...stick to your entertainment Chris because that's all you are...nothing more, nothing less...just pure entertainment.
8 Years Of Incompetence, Arrogance, And Neanderthal Behavior
This Tuesday you will see the people vote in record numbers for the purpose of implementing fundamental change. The direction we have been going in has been an absolute disaster and it will take years to repair the damage done to our way of life itself. Obama is the right man at the right time and that time is now.
It was predicted months ago by many people that the price of gas would come down just before the election...Coincidence...Maybe...Maybe Not
FYI - Definition of Neanderthal: unenlightened, primitive, culturally or intellectually backward...(The Shoe Fits)
I wonder...
Citbret wonders...
What will white people talk about on Nov 5th when Obama becomes President Obama.
This white person, and every intelligent white person I know, will talk about how we helped restore excellence to the White House. I am very excited about the promise of a President Obama. I think it is ignorance, NOT race, as you imply, which separates those of us who recognize his talent and insight with those who resort to fear of the unknown. It is not helpful for you to join in the enterprise of discriminating by race, even if it is quite obvious that this is the enterprise largely fueling the other side.
By the way, it is on Nov. 4th (if it is a clear victory) that Obama becomes President ELECT Obama. It is not until January 20th, 2009 that he could become our next president.
John Buncha Numbers
I apologize that I mistook you're intent, but even with 3 question marks you're meaning was ambiguous. With respect to my panties (metaphorical of course) I suspect they will be in the permanantly knotted position till Tuesday. Still, consider this list again. we could certainly spin a series of convoluted rationales as to why each of these non-issues is a legimate concern but, clearly, this ain't just about the man's politics. The simplest, most sensible motive for these smears is racism (or xenophobia to be pedantic) but feel free to play the "it's everything but" game at home. You might be a racist if these are issues for you this election cycle:
*He is not black
*He is not american born
*He is not christian
*His name is funny
*His supporters are lazy, gullible and unemployed
My Vote
I am white. I voted for Bush twice. I hate Obama's church. I don't like Obama's name at all. I don't care for Michelle Obama and would like to knock the racial chip off her shoulder. I despise affirmative action with a passion. I admire and respect McCain. I think Palin would do fine as VP. I have a master's degree. My household income is over $100,000. Our economy is horrible and we need not be in Iraq. I have been to one funeral for a fallen soldier in Iraq - and it was one too many. Afghanistan is different. If I regret it down the road, I will own up to my mistake - but as for my vote - it will be for Obama.
Hey Noon
You got your panties in an knot over nothing...First thing you quoted me as saying "Obama is Black"....what I said was "Obama is Black ???" with a question mark !!! Get it ?? I was joking !!!A previous poster said "stop being afraid of a black man being president"...that why I said "Obama is black???"
Really...I was kidding....I'm sorry you misread my message !!
I am not a prejudiced person...Yes I would rather see McCain elected...but I'm also smart enought to see that likely will not happen. I am an American and I will support the president no matter who it is...no matter what color he is.... If he becomes president my hope is I was wrong and he'll be a strong capable Prez !!!
Really...I was kidding....I'm sorry you misread my message !!
