VIRGINIA BEACH

Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson is urging prayer before Election Day to stave off an imminent Middle Eastern war he said could bring nuclear attacks on the United States.

In a letter on his Web site, www.patrobertson.com, Robertson said his opinion was that Israel would bomb Iranian nuclear sites between Nov. 4 and the inauguration of the United States' new president.

Robertson tied his warning to biblical prophesy. His letter, which starts out describing his concerns about Russian aggression in Georgia, predicted that Russia would also enter the war, though the United States wouldn't.

"However, we may not be spared nuclear strikes against coastal cities" in America, he wrote.

A version of the letter was sent in September to members of Regent University, where Robertson is founder and president. He is also founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network and host of its daily show, "The 700 Club." The network and university are based in Virginia Beach.

"We have between 75 and 120 days before the Middle East starts spinning out of control," Robertson wrote. "If there was ever a time for fervent prayer, it is now."

Chris Roslan, CBN's spokesman, said Robertson would not comment on the letter.

He said the letter was Robertson's response "to multiple news stories that have appeared in the international media" about future events in the Middle East.

In the letter, Robertson said that "what is clear is this: The Israeli strike against Iran will be the trigger. From then on, dramatic events will follow in quick succession."

"It all will conclude when God has rained fire on the islands of the sea and on the invading force coming against Israel."

Rob Boston, a spokesman at Americans United for Separation of Church and State, said Robertson had a history of "rather outrageous statements" forecasting natural catastrophes and disastrous conflicts that didn't occur.

"His off-the-wall predictions and bizarre statements tar all fundamental Christians with an extreme brush, and that's unfortunate for those Christians who are conservative but don't follow Pat Robertson," Boston said.

"I guess he believes he has a direct pipeline to God," Boston added. "Given the number of false predictions he's given, I might question who's at the other end of that pipeline."

Pat Robertson . . .

Certainly does not speak for all conservatives, all Republicans, nor all born-again Christians around here. In fact, the doctrine he teaches is more "post-millennial" than most Christians around here teach. That would be the side that believes that man will usher in the age of God by successfully spreading the gospel over the whole earth before, and perhaps 1000 years before, Jesus Christ ever returns to rule here.
He is just one doctrinal viewpoint or one denomination among many. Cheers, MGM

saddam's iraq never was

the threat, it was Bin Laden, but Bush has spent billions bombing the heck out of a country that we will spend billions more on rebuilding it. There is nothing to win in Iraq, no one wins in a war and the losses of lives, money and foreign county confidence in the U.S. is heatbreaking.

Pat Roberston prediction

I think if you look back about 20 years or so, you'll find some evidence that our current state of religious and financial affairs began with this man. In the early 80's, at Mr. Robertson's urging my mother donated a car to the 700 Club (at a time when my sister was getting to work by bicycle, rain or shine). People flew down to Charleston to pick up the car. My mom followed every word he said as Gospel, believing she would "judge angels" because she had become a "chosen one", believing that it was okay for her to build up wealth while others around her went in need. After all of her donations and correspondance with Mr. Robertson, he was not heard from when she died of cancer that she believed she was healed from.
Mr. Robertson has fostered an elitist "social christian" group, now intent on "saving" the world for their version of "God." A group that sometimes denies children their childhood for fear of satan having influence over them. I've seen first hand the destruction his type of religious rhetoric can bring about.
There are followers calling themselves the "army of God", because they believe they will have a battle with satan. They fail to understand the battle with sata

And the bad news is

Pat Robertson is clearly losing his mind and has been for years. Having said that, I hope Israel does take out Iran. They're far more of a threat to the world than Saddam's Iraq ever was.

i think your tie is on to tight pat

however, this is not a bad idea , we should have sent them towel heads back to the stone age 2 years ago , this is the only way these people will get the message to stop enriching plutonium , someone has to do it might as well be them

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Election Year!!!

Pat does this EVERY election year and you're a newcomer to the area if you didn't see this coming. But, we love him anyway. He's really a nice man, and one of the great icons of Hampton Roads starting from his humble beginnings in that cinderblock building on Turnpike Road in Portsmouth where he broadcasted one of our area's first teletons and poor people sent him $25 a month to spread the gospel. Well, the boy did well with the $$ and at least he turned that investment into a college, a cool hotel, and a broadcasting dynasty, among other ventures -- and he employs a lot of people. Hey, we're lucky, we could have gotten stuck with Robert Tilton.

Pat Robertson

Someone should tell Mr. Robertson that a war has been going on in the m iddle east for over 2000 years. The prediction of his is really a moot point.

help me....

what make's this buffons comments news worthy??

I can see a vision,,, yes,, it's getting clearer,,,, I can see that Pat and another person is in the same room,,, yes,, she is wearing something that looks like a nurse's outfit.... And it looks as if she is changing a baby,,,, wait !!! it's Pat,, she's changing Pat's depends.... wow....

When I was about 8 years

When I was about 8 years old, I saw a Pat Robertson interview/speech that made me think the world would end in 14 days.

I have never forgiven him that.

(By The way, he was wrong...I am now 42)

fools

under the right circumstances, any man can forsee anything.

intuition is a part of human nature.

take notice of the source as well.

don't believe the hype.

sure it did

carole

All I Can Say Is...

when Gustav was about to hit New Orleans,I prayed just like Pat prayed away Gloria. And it worked!! (Maybe it just takes one sinner to move a hurricane)

This is too cool!!!!

...I just noticed you now have a comic section in the pilotonline!...and WOW...that guy looks just like Pat Robertson...why does he grimice so?...sorry ...never read the text...I just like to look at the pictures!

get it over with

If we are going to kill some Muslims let's get started! Stop talking about it Pat, and get going. Don't wait for Israel.

And now he's a psychic.........

So now he is into making predictions! !WOW! As if praying storms away wasnt enough for one man!

pat

robertson's christian values and views are considered "way too conservative" by sarah palin. pat has never even conducted an honest to god witch hunt like palin's minister muthee in alaska.

I was wondering when...

he was going to rear his HUGE head!

heaven help us

heaven help us from self proclaimed prophets. Isn't it about time he met his maker?

Real question is when "Nostradumbie" going to pull a Jim Jones?

What a bunch of clowns he and his lemmings are. Please send him more of your money so the "liberals" can't get it.

Pats gotta go

...to the bathroom by the look on his face in that picture. See Pat I can foresee the future too.

Really?

Let me see if I got this right . . . someone predicts war in the Middle East? Hmmm . . . I think that has been going on on for 5000 years or so (give or take).

Tomorrow's headline "NEXT WEEK WILL HAVE A WEDNESDAY!"

Non-news

This isn't really even worth reported and especially not a headline story. I guess someone wants to stir up the anti-religious bigots.

#1 Killer in history.

As the leader of a fantical religious organization it does not surprise me one bit he thinks this way as do his fanatical religious enemies. After all these people have been the cause of more death and destruction throughout history than anything else.

And the war will be about..

And the war will be about or encouraged by... religion! Keep the people in fear, control the people.

Padded Room Time?

When will this guy go to meet his maker? We'll all be better off. But I digress.

Did Robertson's handlers go out to lunch or off on vacation, leaving him to bounce weird ideas off the walls?

Oh well, occasional spots of humor brighten up the day -- thanks, Pat!

Crazy Like a Fox?

Call me paranoid if you want to, but notice the timing here. Is this just another of his loony forecasts or is he shrewdly playing the Republican fear card in order to solidify his mostly right wing followers, thereby helping deliver the vote to McCain?

Robertson's Coffers Must Be Getting Slim

So the "all knowing" one speaks again. This time referring to biblical prophesy; you know, that fiction written a couple thousand years ago by some goat herders.

It's just like Pat to interject some vacuous insight into the current election. Problem is, everybody knows he's may have a full six pack; however, he just doesn't have that plastic thing that holds them all together. Pat, do us a favor and climb back under your rock......

Here, let me try

Um, I see it getting dark tonight.

Of course we will be fighting in the middle east. They gots our crack man.
