College football Game Plan: What to watch

Posted to: College Football Sports

No. 5 Texas vs. No. 1 Oklahoma

The Cotton Bowl is the place to be. But if you can't be there, at least you can watch it on the tube. "We'll have everybody in America talking about the game," said Texas coach Mack Brown, pictured above. "And that's what we want. It's fun. It's what Texas and OU have wanted forever, and we got it back." Saturday, WVEC, noon

James Madison at Richmond

The Dukes are No. 1 in the country in Division I-AA; Richmond blew its own moment at No. 1 two weeks ago. Oddly enough, the Dukes' "road" game at Richmond is more likely to be a fairly neutral game, given there are so many JMU alumni living in the Richmond area - probably more than Richmond alums. Saturday, CSN, 3:30 p.m.

No. 17 Oklahoma State at No. 3 Missouri

Just about any other week, this would be the showcase game as Chase Daniel continues his, er, chase of the Heisman. Both teams are unbeaten and, combined with the "five-clicker" game of the day between Texas and Oklahoma, the Big 12 will have a choke-hold on our attentions from the start of the day to the end. Saturday, ESPN2, 8 p.m.

No. 4 LSU at No. 11 Florida

The Tigers are shooting for a national title, while Florida hopes to regain the love of the Gator Nation fans it disappointed two weeks ago against Mississippi. Oh, if only Florida were unbeaten. Then this would have been a knock-down, drag-out to match Texas-Oklahoma. Saturday, WTKR, 8 p.m.

Notre Dame at No. 22 North Carolina

Somebody's coming out of this one with real momentum. Saturday, WVEC, 3:30 p.m.

No. 23 Michigan State at Northwestern

Usually, Northwestern is a sub-.500 squad, but every five years or so, the Wildcats put up a real fight. This is that year, and the 5-0 'Cats are coming off a bye week. Could Northwestern make its Nov. 8 date with visiting Ohio State a big game? Saturday, ESPN2, 3:30 p.m.

Tennessee at No. 10 Georgia

It's the SEC, and anything can happen, even a Tennessee upset. Saturday, WTKR, 3:30 p.m.

Purdue at No. 12 Ohio State

The Buckeyes play Michigan State and Penn State back to back at the end of this month. Best not trip in this one. Saturday, ESPN, 3:30 p.m.

No. 6 Penn State at Wisconsin

This is a tricky game for the Nittany Lions: a trip to face a bunch of wounded Badgers. Saturday, ESPN, 8 p.m.

East Carolina at Virginia

Suddenly, East Carolina doesn't appear to be so good, and Virginia isn't looking quite so bad. Saturday, WGNT, noon
