Rep. Thelma Drake lashed out Wednesday against a TV ad paid for by union group that accuses her voting against military veterans’ issues.
The Service Employees International Union ad running in the 2nd District charges Drake voted against additional healthcare for veterans and against additional funding for Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.
Drake, who assembled a group of military veterans and politicians to criticize the spot at a Wednesday news conference, accused the union group of distorting her votes.
“I’m very offended that an outside group is willing is to spend money to distort the facts,” she said.
Drake is running for her third term against challenger Glenn Nye.
SEIU represents about 2 million people working in health care, public service and property services in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. The bills cited for the ad are mostly spending plans that include proposals for money for many items, including veterans’ issues.
Drake joined most Republicans in voting against them.

This ad is just as accurate as the ones she "authorized" against Nye. If you throw mud, expect to get mud thrown at you.

She just gets the phone call from her cronies telling her which button to push and does so thoughtlessly. How is that a position?

She voted "no" so what else needs to be said? She can be offended as much as she likes, but she voted against the military members... No excuses are needed... I'll never vote for her. BTW: I'm US Navy Retired and proud to support our troops.

Thelma caters to those who can afford to pony up $5,000 to break bread with her. She provides nothing more than lip service to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. She has followed President Bush and his failed policies to our present state of chaos and collapse and in the final hour we see the tragic result. Republicans are in a self inflicted blood bath of their own making and have slipped the knife to President Bush and Secretary Paulson. Et tu, Brutus indeed!

Drake offers very little meanigful legislation. She has always taken the path as a follower. The attack about the guys house was more than misleading, it was false. Overall a very bad showing by this one.

I guess you missed the article in the V-P in which the Commissioner of Revenue for the District of Columbia issued a statement that what Glenn Nye and his brother did was perfectly legal.
And the only thing "flawed" about the veterans benefits bills Drake voted against was that her master "W" was going to veto them. She made it clear that her loyalty to Bush was more important to her than helping veterans. There's a reason why she, Bush and McCain all get failing grades from veterans groups.
THELMA SHOULD BE THANKFUL
Thelma should be thankful that they omitted how many times that she voted AGAINST raising the minimum wage, but voted herself and Congress a raise. Bye, Bye Thelma. There should be plenty of jobs for you in Crawford, Texas come January!

Yup. Thelma votes against a bill that she believes is flawed and is cast as anti-veteran. Gotta love american politics. Yes, I know both sides do it. Doesn't make it right.
BTW, questioning whether a candidate is actually eligible for a tax exemption that he took is not a smear, it's a legitimate question. If we can talk about McCain's houses why can't we talk about Nye's? If Nye had any political savvy he would have worked this issue to his advantage by now. I'm still waiting for proof that he was (or was not) entitled to this exemption.
If she voted against it
then the ads are true. At least the ads are looking at her record, not smearing a member of her opponent's family. So, that was ok but using her actual voting record is not?
Drake has no room to complain
Give me a break. Her ads are just as bad. I hope every current seating congressman and senator is voted out of office. Our country needs to wipe the political slate clean and start over. They have failed us. Oh, by the way, I don't care who is elected as president as well. Their ads are also full of lies. The average American citizen doesn't know what or who to believe any more. It is a sad state of affairs. I am registered and I will vote though.

Poor Thelma Drake, doesn't like it when people tell the truth about her. I find it funny that she is offended by so-called distorting of her record when she loves to distort Glenn Nye's positions all the time. The facts are simple... her record in the House reflects that she does not support Veterans. She can't run from her record anymore. She is nothing but a rubber stamp for her party who is apparently incapable of taking a stand for what is right.
