Editorial board interviews
The Virginian-Pilot’s editorial board finished up its mayoral candidate interviews last week.
The candidates were asked about their views on tax-increment financing districts, public-private partnerships, mass transit and light rail, off-shore oil drilling, restaurant smoking bans and the Indigo Dunes project off Shore Drive.
Three of the four candidates for mayor came in for interviews.
Former councilman John Moss answered the yes or no questions by phone but declined to come in for the board’s interview. He said that he thought it was unlikely that he would get the paper’s endorsement and didn’t want to waste his or the editorial board’s time.
And former Navy SEAL Scott Taylor forgot his appointment and arrived about 45 minutes late after receiving a call from one of the editorial writers.
The editorial board plans on having all its endorsements finished two weeks before the elections.
