Fourteen local residents are among nearly 200 military spouses who have been accepted to the Military Spouse Fellowship Program run by the FINRA Investor Education Foundation.
FINRA is the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, a non-governmental regulator of securities firms doing business in the United States.
The program provides fellowship recipients with the education to earn the accredited financial counselor designation. They will then be able to provide financial counseling and education within the military community.
The local participants are: Melissa Garrison, Delicia Hutchinson-Carswell, Meghan Lefevre, Sara Martinez, Quiana Oates and Torian Walker, all of Virginia Beach; Deborah Hughes and Karen McMiller of Norfolk; Crystal Korneli of Portsmouth; Jennifer O'Neal of Chesapeake; Beth Legate of Windsor; Sarah Melvey of Williamsburg; Novelda Sommers of Hampton; and Lori Thompson of Newport News.
