Hokies receiver arrested after suspension

Posted to: College Football Sports

Virginia Tech receiver Ike Whitaker was arrested Friday in Blacksburg on misdemeanor charges of public swearing and intoxication - within 24 hours of an announcement that he had been indefinitely suspended from the football team.

Hokies coach Frank Beamer said Thursday in a news release that Whitaker was suspended for "violations of team policy." Beamer didn't comment further.

Whitaker was arrested in March of 2006 for public swearing and intoxication, underage possession of alcohol and destruction of property. In December of the same year, he checked into an alcohol rehabilitation center for a month.

Whitaker was welcomed back to the team last fall and converted from quarterback - where he was once a highly touted recruit - to wide receiver.

Whitaker will face his latest charges in Montgomery County General District Court on the morning of Nov. 6. Tech hosts Maryland in football that night.

Frank Beamer doesn't put a foot down

until he has a suitable replacement. He demonstrates that philosophy with his management of Marcus Vick and Brandon Ore. Don't break your arm patting him on the back.

It's About Time

I just read that Ike thinks he was mistreated, when he was suspended from the football team. What does he think about all of the supporters of Tech athletics felt when for the third time he was found less than upstanding with his behavior? I for one am glad to see Frank and the rest of the athletic dept. put their foot down to such stupid behavior, keep it up and GO HOKIES

?????

This is the second story on football players behaving badly....one would think with all the time spent practicing, playing and STUDYING players wouldnt have time to get into trouble!!!!!! Guess not...sad!
