How much does China suck?

MORE THAN ANY ONE BLOG COULD EXPLAIN.

From their neglect to respect their own people and countries like Tibet, I've come to the conclusion that China just sucks a freaking lot. Yet, we let them prosper? We send them jobs and allowed them to have global recognition through the Olympics earlier this year? What kind of mad world do we live in where we stand by countries that torture and silence their citizens into obedience and neglect peacemakers like the Dalai Lama?

It might just be the blogger in me, but I insist on pointing out the Chinese internet policies. Western companies including Cisco Systems, Nortel Networks, Sun Microsystems, 3COM, Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft, IBM and others actually work with China to provide internet censorship throughout the web. Censorship that would be unheard of in any fair and civilized country, but heh, it's China. Chinese search engines monitor content by keyword to remove offending Web sites. When people search banned content (for example: Revolution, Democracy, STD, Human rights) through Chinese search engines like Baidu and Yisou, the filtering system disconnects them.

Yet, their internet policies are almost petty compared to other programs enacted or in progress in China. A few days ago I was discussing my discontent for China with a few friends and we started talking about those freaking electronic ID cards in China. If you didn't already know, the Chinese residency cards contain computer chips that contain every form of identification implemented in them. The NY Times explained that “Data on the chip will include not just the citizen’s name and address but also work history, educational background, religion, ethnicity, police record, medical insurance status and landlord’s phone number. Even personal reproductive history will be included, for enforcement of China’s controversial “one child” policy. Plans are being studied to add credit histories, subway travel payments and small purchases charged to the card.” Of course the Chinese consider it an acceptable policy and that the cards are only to "protect" it's citizens, which is a typical psycho- government excuse.

I probably sound like I'm a preaching some weird conspiracy theories right now, but no, this stuff is already happening. I've heard it elsewhere, but it's true, Big Brother has nothing on these guys.

Ahhh, well I need to start on my homework, I don't why I'm on a "China sucks" rampage, but the nerd in me was eating my cereal this morning and found it necessary to blog about my discontent with a very distant nation from mine.

China sucks though, period.
