Letters to the Editor
We welcome your opinion on public issues, in either of two ways. You can submit a letter to the editor for possible publication in the printed edition. The Virginian-Pilot welcomes letters to the editor on all topics, although concise letters (150 words or less) on public issues will receive priority. Letters may be edited for length, style and clarity and writers are limited to one published letter every month. Please add your name, city, street address and daytime telephone number for confirmation.
The other way is to comment on the published letters in this blog. In this online forum, you can comment as much as you want by using the comment box at the end of each entry.

Pickup bumper stickers
My old pickup has a NObama '08 sticker on the bumper. It's surprising to see how many people will pull up behind me thinking it's an Obama '08 sticker, and when they see the capital "N," they zip around me. Some even indicate their age, IQ, or number of legitimate parents to me with a hand gesture as they go by. Funny. I'll probably keep the sticker on there even if NObama wins. I'll just trim the '08 off, and I'm ready for 2012.
that's weird
It's funny, because all the cars that I see with "Obama/Biden" bumper stickers happen to be BMWs and Mercedes-Benz.
I also agree with jonb92063. Suppose those Lexus drivers just happened to stay out of trouble when they were in high school. They graduated, went to college (and studied, not partied). Then they got high-paying jobs that would support their lifestyles.
Now look at all the people driving expensive cars that also happen to be on welfare somehow. All their bumper stickers are for "Obama/Biden"
Ironic, huh?
JohnB
You give the same tired line every time you post, both under this alias and another one on this site that I suspect is you, as well... the "Democrats want free handouts" line is old, so give it up. The notion that educated individuals are Republicans is so ridiculous it speaks to the small window through which you clearly view life. I have a world class education, and I expect no handouts from my government. I do, however, expect accountability in managing our economy and the lives of our troops. The President is at the center of that. You can continue to blab all you want with your far right-wing generalities, but Bush and the Republicans in Congress have had EIGHT years to get it right. Sure, try to blame the Democrats. I expect nothing less from your kind.
Bumper Stickers / Signs
In my travels, I see all types of cars supporting both candidates, which would seem to make sense, since those who can afford to buy a Lexus would seem to number less than those who cannot. In my middle class neighborhood, I see signs for both candidates, more for McCain than Obama, and I reject the notion that only the rich support McCain. As far as wondering whether or not Osama is in Ohio, my bet is that he's not. But John McCain said he will get him, so you may want to give a quick call to his office if you are truly interested in his whereabouts.
So logically
we should be seeing Obama/Biden stickers on beat-up Nova's, Impala's, and Cadillac's? Or maybe a Bel-air station wagon?
Was your Letter to the Editor edited?
Interesting
I look at it differently. Those people driving Lexus and Mercedes products are most likely people who took advantage of an education and don't expect the government to do everything for them. What really needs to be done is take a look at the types of people that are voting for and supporting Obama. Take a poll in any prison and see who they are supporting. Try taking a poll in a rehab center. Did anyone check to see if one of the people ACORN registered to vote might be a known terrorist? Did anyone check to see if one of the people being bussed in Ohio might have been Bin Laden himself?
McCain, Bush
Both represent the conservative failure and meltdown.
Decrease , Increase
If Obama takes charge you may see a decrease in those Mercedes and Lexus and a increase in bicyles and scooters.
Vicki
I live in Chesapeake and have a McCain/Palin bumpersticker on my car which is a 1999 Toyota Corolla. Yep, I'm one of the fat cats who have profited so much from McCain (ooops!, Bush). Of course, when I see Obama stickers on cars, they are about 95% black folks with the rest being very obvious guilt-ridden liberal white folks (you can see the guilt all over their faces!). What sort of car do you drive, Vicki?
You are wrong Vicki
I am for McCain and I drive a Toyota not a lexas, I also drive a Pontiac for your information. We are the Average Joes not the Privlidge few hanging out with homegrown Terrorist and hatefilled preachers. OH YEA by the way "I cling to my Religion and guns" and Nobama may try and pry them from my cold dead hands before I give them up.
Vicki . . .
You meant "Bush" not "McCain." McCain isn't elected yet. Cheers, MGM
Heads buried
I'm not quite sure this is thought provoking or representative of a alternate viewpoint, but as the VP published it, the letter must be worthy of response.
Drive out of Great Bridge and into any urban community in Norfolk, South Norfolk, Franklin, Emporia, Suffolk, or Portsmouth and you will see plenty of BMWs, Caddilacs, Lexus, Infinitys, and Acuras adorned with Hope, Change, and Obama.
This was the best letter the VP could print?
I guess printing letters like this is what can be expected from the VP who is obviously in the tank for Obama. I have seen all sorts of makes and models with Obama or McCain stickers on their car. Either I am more observant, or Ms. Philbrick has selective eyesight.
One thing is for sure however; both Ms. Philbrick and the VP continue to promote unwarranted class warfare with letters like this.
