We welcome your opinion on public issues, in either of two ways. You can submit a letter to the editor for possible publication in the printed edition. The Virginian-Pilot welcomes letters to the editor on all topics, although concise letters (150 words or less) on public issues will receive priority. Letters may be edited for length, style and clarity and writers are limited to one published letter every month. Please add your name, city, street address and daytime telephone number for confirmation.
The other way is to comment on the published letters in this blog. In this online forum, you can comment as much as you want by using the comment box at the end of each entry.

truth about this finicial mess
The Democrats, under Clinton, strengthened a government-created monster called the "Community Reinvestment Act." This law was then used by "activists" and "community organizers" (like Obama?) to coerce lending institutions to make these bad loans ... millions of them. Now we see what happens when political "wisdom" supplants good loan underwriting. When private financial institutions are virtually forced to make loans to people with a bad credit and job history .. this is what you getJust remember that an arcticle in the New York Times, April 1997. This, was 11 years ago. "The chairman of the House Banking Committee called today for an investigation into the investment practices of Freddie Mac, the Congressional-chartered, shareholder-owned mortgage finance company, saying it had abused the preferential borrowing terms it enjoys through its ties to the Government. Representative Jim Leach, Republican of Iowa, said Freddie Mac -- short for the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation. So you add this to Franklin Raines' 100 million and Jim Johnson, what he ever got out of it, and Jamie Gorelick's part of the group that got $75 million out of Fannie Mae, and you see precisely what
Article for the VP
Yes, just how *did* ACORN in Chicago profit from the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac debacle??? I would like to read those articles, if someone would be kind enough to provide a link. Wish our local paper would take the topic on (and Alaska secession and anything else that they could research and either confirm or put to bed . . .). Cheers, MGM
Ted Kennedy
Sir, I've met Ted Kennedy. I've heard him speak. Ted Kennedy has done some great things for this country. Sir, Sarah Palin is NO Ted Kennedy!
"that gay couples should
"that gay couples should have the same rights and privileges as a married couple, but the word 'marriage' is reserved for a union between a man and a woman."
I agree w/ that. Marriage is a religious institution. The goverment should have no involvement. Civil unions will be the norm in the near future.
It is easy to point fingers. What seems to be harder is for Obama to look inward for fault. You kow he is sweating some very real facts about his connections to the FM's and his voting record. Take a look.
Progressive = liberal
Moving the country towards a liberal agenda is what has caused this financial mess to begin with. Mandated liberal lending rules gave money to people who couldn't afford loans. Obama and the liberal media have done an excellent job of placing blame on republicans and taking zero responsibility for the mess despite ample evidence to the contrary.
Make no mistake; republicans share the blame for the condition of this country because they strayed from a core conservative principle of fiscal responsibility among other things.
