A list of restaurants that may be better than Subway
In today's column about Hampton Roads' abysmal restaurant ratings, some people didn't appreciate my tongue-in-cheek humor that Subway is one of my favorite restaurants. (Although, $5 footlongs are a steal.) Many people suggested I get out more. Among readers' suggestions: Coastal Grill, Eurasia Cafe, One Fish-Two Fish, Cafe Milano, Cobalt Grill, Coyote Cafe, Back Bay Pizza & Bistro, No-Frill Bar & Grill, Eat, 501 City Grill, IL Giardino, La Bella Italia, Terrapi, Colley Cantina and Cafe Europa.
I'll put it on the to-do list.
Are you a Maverick? These guys are. Literally. Last name, Maverick. (Doubtful, but I wonder if they get anything from their name being used ala Dallas Mavericks.)
One more note about the presidential election: a study of presidential campaign symbols. I think this is interesting, but if it really made a difference, wouldn't everyone's election sign look even more identical than they already do?
Perfect for Halloween, you can bid on, among other things, alien masks from New Dominion Pictures in Suffolk. Or office supplies. Or editing equipment. But really, you need those alien masks. They'll fool everyone.
Important news if you're running the Marine Corps Marathon. The ultimate in customer loyalty. There's a nicer bathroom for Brooks runners.
Finally, some economy humor for you here at a site called "Sad guys on the trading floor."

They must have been looking at Town Center
The problem I see with dining in Hampton Roads is that folks here seem to prefer a good chain restaurant where everything comes in in boil-in bags or microwave trays (Appleby's, Cheesecake Factory, Romanos, etc.). The only oasis is downtown Norfolk where most of the eateries are really restaurants and not just food slingers. I love finding great local fare in any city I visit, I just usually have to leave Virginia Beach to find it.
Mama's Fish House
Dang - Maui.
Dickey's BBQ
Nope, Dallas.
Dona Maria's Tamales
Oops - still Vegas.
Binion's Ranch Steakhouse
Oh, wait...that restaurant is in Vegas. Yep, food here pretty much sucks. And don't get me started on attempting to go out to eat on a Friday or Saturday night without a reservation. Impossible. Everywhere else I travel wifey and I can walk into a restaurant and usually get a table immediately. No such luck here. I'd rather stay home and cook.
