VIRGINIA BEACH
Production workers scurried through the fourth-floor hallway of Studio 56 lofts at Town Center on Friday as crew members shot scenes establishing the plot of a film set for release next spring.
"The Bill Collector," a comedy starring Gary Moore and tough-guy character actor Danny Trejo, is being filmed at locations across Hampton Roads through early next month. Crew and cast members are shooting most of the movie in Norfolk, where the film is set, said second assistant director Julie McCoy.
The movie is written and directed by Cristobal Krusen, who also is president of Messenger Films, the company producing "The Bill Collector." He is a former writer and director for Christian Broadcast Network productions in Virginia Beach, and his ties to CBN and Regent University were strong factors in the decision to film the $200,000 budget project in Hampton Roads, McCoy said.
A Studio 56 loft was used as the home of Lorenzo Adams, the collections agency manager played by Moore, and crew members staged equipment in an adjacent unit. The scenes shot on Friday captured the movie's plot, with loan shark Frankie Gutierrez, played by Trejo, giving Adams a deadline to pay his debts.
Filming is scheduled to end Nov. 7, and officials will then begin seeking a distributor for a release in theaters, McCoy said.
Lenny Walsh, a Regent University junior, was one of several students volunteering as a production assistant. His duties? "Whatever they want," he said, standing in the hall as crews began to shoot another scene.

vb movies
The movie hot shots as a scene of the oceanfront and the beach.
I agree --CBN?
Sounded interesting until it came from those who brought us punishment from God for being soft on gays Katrina, 911), end of world, diamond mines, other tolerance of such violence and intolerance of anything it disagrees with....not to mention the millions of dollars taken from people who may really need it.
How many houses does Pat have?
Doh comment
Are you aware of the amount of judgment you levy against others? "Real cities..." is a sign of judgment. Aren't all cities, cities? Whether they have movie productions or not does not make them better or ours worse. Your devaluation of Regent University is another sign of judgment. If you prefer another university over another one, that is fine, but to devalue something based on your personal beliefs is a sign of very intense judgment. How are your interpersonal relationships? They would be a good indicator of your "explosive" character. There is hope. It's just a matter of your willingness to admit your pride. Are you "too good" to be honest about your condition? To good to be wrong? To manly to be humble?
There is hope for abundant life and love instead of the hate you carry around, throwing it out like a weapon at those that something you're missing. Why not receive what they have and enjoy life?
Navy Seals w/ Charlie Sheen
Parts of that movie was filmed in VB/Norfolk. Funny stuff, in one scene, they're in a hotel down at the beach but when you see the shot out the window, you can see Naval ships instead of the ocean. I'm sure it was done for "movie" purposes, but living here and seeing that, it was weird.
On Location
I always like to hear that nativies, or past citizens bring their talent back to the area. I've traveled all over the US and we forget how advanced Hampton Roads is - we even take for granted that paying at the pump is a "given" - it's not. We don't have the headaches that big cities have yet we offer an amazing array of landscapes and diversity etc. Ethan - unless you're sure that the the movie "Making Contact" was filmed here, Z104 is found in Madison WI, Spartanburg SC, Visalia CA, Tulsa OK, and use to be in Washington.
Neat
Sounded cool until Regent university was mentioned. Doh. When you're in real cities you see this stuff more often. I remember randomly coming across filming of a silver screen production in Philly, and also something similar in NYC. I used to keep score of movies filmed in Hampton Roads. Check out "Making Contact" ... you can see a Z104 sticker on the kids door.
