A personal injury lawyer known for his bombastic TV commercials is facing two misdemeanor charges after a doctor accused him of being verbally abusive and assaulting him.

Attorney Lowell “The Hammer” Stanley says the charges are “untrue and baseless.”

Dr. Abbot Granoff, a psychiatrist, said Stanley cursed at him in five incidents between March and September, according to court documents.

The two men have offices in the same building on Newtown Road.

Stanley was charged with assault and abusive language.

On Aug. 21, Granoff wrote, Stanley cursed at him then hit him in the leg with a plastic U.S. Postal Service carton.

“I’m totally innocent of these charges,” Stanley said, adding that Granoff isn’t “one of my favorite people.”

“I didn’t assault him, and if I was going to assault anyone, my weapon of choice would not be a plastic mail carton.”

Granoff declined to comment. A court date has been set for Nov. 21.
