PORTSMOUTH
Portsmouth police arrested a man early Tuesday morning in connection with a shooting Monday night, police said.
The arrest came after a vehicle and foot chase in the Cavalier Manor neighborhood, a police statement said.
According to the statement:
Leonard Jerome Gorham, 21, was shot in the upper body at 11:02 p.m. in the 600 block of Cherokee Road.
Four men in a Honda station wagon approached Gorham and began shooting. The driver then dropped off three people.
Police officers saw the car in Cavalier Manor about 3 a.m. and tried to stop the driver. He led officers on a pursuit that ended in the 1400 block of King St., where he hit a parked vehicle. He then ran a short distance before officers caught him.
Police charged Charles Lee Jones, of the 1000 block of Tazewell Drive with aggravated malicious wounding, use or display of a firearm in the commission of a felony, resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon and traffic charges.
Charges are pending for at least three other suspects, police said. A gun was recovered from the Honda, police said.
Gorham was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. He was listed in good condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
