RICHMOND
Hours before Virginia voters head to the polls, the NAACP will go to federal court to demand that more voting machines be placed in minority polling places.
A hearing in federal court was set for 3:15 p.m. Monday after the organization renewed its motion Friday to redistribute voting machines, extend voting hours and make paper ballots available in some precincts.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People sued last week alleging the state was unprepared for Tuesday's huge turnout in the presidential election. The group withdrew the request Thursday after mediation with state officials.
NAACP officials said they did not expect any new hearing before the election. But NAACP President Ben Jealous said the organization concluded Friday the problems still existed.

NAACP
I still call the NAACP out as racists for the remarks they have made about people of color not being able to wait in line. I would say that about two-year-olds, not about whole groups of adults who have a certain color of skin. That is just so wrong. The black friends I have (and Hispanic and Asian) all have no problem waiting patiently in line, just like those of us with lighter skin. Cheers, MGM
More voting machines in minority voting places?
I didnt realize the "voting places" were segregated...my "voting place" has a richly diverse mix of voters...maybe that disqualifies us for additional help from the NAACP?
If they are sore losers now just wait till Wed morn...
The NAACP will not accept a courtts ruling so they pout and go higher. Wait till next Weds, McCain wins, riots in LA, Detroit, Chicago and DC oh and Philly. And the Dems say the Presidential Race is not based on a race issue. It is his race that keeps complaining. Why wait until a week before - why did they not try such action months ago? As previously reported in the Pilot, there are double the number of machines this election than last, and there was no problem last time. There will be no problem this time. If someone wants to vote, then make the effort like everyone else has been doing for years. At least the election board stated that if in line, at 7PM you will get to vote. I had to work late once and just barely made it. I did not complain because I new the right to vote came with the responsibility to work within the constraints of the polling hours.
Follow The Directions
To make things go more smoothly, everyone should do the following:
1. Know in advance who you want to vote for.
2. Determine the correct polling place.
3. Take proper identification.
4. Follow the directions of the Officers of Election.
5. Move along quickly so that others may vote.
yeah right
Last presidential election less than 22% of eligible voters took the time to vote.
LOSERS!
I spent 10 years of my life in the U.S. Submarine Forces, to ensure we have the freedom and right to vote, so that almost 4 out of every 5 eligible voters could ignore the election, then complain about the results.
I am willing to wager that when the polls open, nobody will be there. When the polls close, nobody had to wait in line.
When McCain wins, there will be a riot and a whole bunch of lawsuits.
If you can't win by election, win by lawsuit, right?
Racism
I thought racism was outlawed?
If it's outlawed then it can't exist, correct? except of course unless you're a finger pointer (blamer) always pointing out how everyone except them is a racist..... like the NAACP.
If you're sincere in helping people, you help all people regardless of wealth, race, or any other judgment.
