Navy will announce Nov. 21 if ships might go to Florida

Posted to: Military Norfolk

NORFOLK

The Navy plans to announce its preference for moving ships to northern Florida on Nov. 21, a Navy spokesman said Wednesday.

Virginia officials are fighting the potential relocation of an aircraft carrier from Hampton Roads.

Ted Brown, a spokesman for Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, said the study will identify a preferred option for renovating Mayport Naval Station near Jacksonville to accommodate more ships. After a 30-day waiting period required by federal law, the Secretary of the Navy will make a decision on the base’s future.

The Navy may also choose to make no improvements to the base, Brown said.

A final decision is expected in late December or January, Brown said.

Ships

I have been to Jacksonville they have nice new bridges and did it without a lot of Navy ships there? Send the ship there and maybe Hampton Roads will be able to fix or build new bridges. Maybe interstate 95 will get improved also, with all the Navy personnel traveling from Norfolk to Fl. There to many ships here now. Norfolk doesn't need 5 or 6 Carriers. One Carrier to Fl would balance the traffic flow when the Jordon Bridge closes.

All Aboard!

The gravy train has left the station. Thanks to the anti military on council boards here. You think you can't sell over price real estate now.
