A 15-year-old has been charged with a hate crime after members of the United Jewish Community of the Virginia Peninsula found a traffic cone had been set on fire and anti-Semitic graffiti had been sprayed on a damaged storage locker.
The youth was not identified because of his age, according to a police statement released last night. He was charged with burglary, committing a hate crime to damage property, vandalism and trespassing.
A surveillance camera captured footage of the crime on Oct. 1 at the community’s facilities at 2700 Spring Road, police said.
A boy wearing a Halloween mask can be seen going into the storage shed between 4 and 7 p.m. and damaging the property, police said. Sexually explicit images also were sprayed on the property.
The boy who was charged was released to the custody of his parents and is awaiting a court date.
