"No rule changes' coming for new car

Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's VP of competition, says series officials won't be making rule changes for the Cup car after this season, saying they want to keep the rules constant so teams have a better chance of improving their cars instead of changing rules all the time and forcing teams to work in several different directions.

"We're going to remain firm on our rules,'' Pemberton said Monday during a break in testing for the Nationwide COT at Lowe's Motor Speedway. "There are no rule changes coming along. We've had conversations with competitors in the garage area throughout the summer and generally when we're talking about the (upcoming) year, those discussions happen in mid-August, early September as far as rules and regulations go. We're pleased with the progress the teams have made. I think as the teams have made their improvements, maybe early on they were looking for rule changes but I think as they found things to get their drivers and teams competitive and happy, they've come back and said, "OK, let's stay the course on rules and regulations and we'll get another year under our belt.''
