Posted to: Crime News Norfolk Religion

NORFOLK

Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church will host a community gang-prevention brainstorming session on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 6400 Newport Ave.

The forum will welcome input from any member of the public concerned about rising gang activity in Norfolk and its schools.

“We will work with existing programs, the police force and the city of Norfolk,” said the Rev. Joseph Metzger.

The church is located a few blocks from Granby High School. For information call 423-8305.

Input

What input you need is to identify the 16 year old that had a gun in school, so that you could take a good hard look at his friends. That is if his parents are willing to identify his close friends. The same holds true for the football player that was killed. His mother should identify all of his friends. Lets take some of the guess work out of who is in a gang. When you find out one is in a gang, go knock on his/her door, identify yourself as the police, tell them they have been identified as gang members, tell them they will be watched very closely, and then give them an alternative to gang participation. Either find them a job, since it obvious they have too much time on their hands, or better yet, supply them with a tutor so they can excell at school and possibly turn their life around. Either way, confronting them is a requirement, put them on notice and then ring their bells when you have proof of gang participation. You don't need to wait for them to commit a crime, participation in a gang is already a crime. Prosecute them and send them away to school (prison/jail to a hood)!

Do not invite Councilman Riddick

Do not invite Councilman Riddick because he may go Bob's Gun Shop and bring 9mm hand guns to the meeting. I read in the Pilot he thought that may be a good idea for a recent Council Meeting.

How many times have gang

How many times have gang forums been held at churches/community buildings? People show up, express their concerns, and everyone goes home. Not a thing is accomplished. The problem is not fixed. Next day, back to the same ole gang activity.
