VIRGINIA BEACH

If you’re planning on driving in the Princess Anne Road or Dam Neck Road areas of Virginia Beach today, the city wants you to plan ahead or find alternate routes if possible.

Several public events, including a campaign rally for Sen. Barack Obama, are expected to cause heavy congestion this afternoon, according to the city. And no road closures or detours are planned.

The campaign rally at the Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheater will throw open the gates about 4 p.m. with the rally starting at 5:45 p.m., the city says.

But before the rally starts, planned events at the Princess Anne Athletic Complex will be continuing as scheduled along with a 1 p.m. start for public school sporting events at the field hockey training center. The events were rescheduled from 3 p.m., the city says.

From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. the Sportsplex and Princess Anne Athletic Development Project will hold an open house at the Advanced Technology Center, 1700 College Crescent, the city says. The event is being held in room H-170. The public is being asked to enter the center from Rosemont Road near Tidewater Community College.

The middle school soccer championship games that were to be held at the sportsplex have been rescheduled to Nov. 5, the city says. The girls game will be held at 5 p.m. and the boys game will be held at 6:30 p.m.
