Police have arrested a 17-year-old and charged him in connection with a fatal shooting near Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base in September.

Walter A. Brown, Jr. was taken into custody Saturday evening by Portsmouth police, a Virginia Beach police news release said. He faces charges of murder, attempted robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and conspiracy to violate the drug act.

He was being held at the Virginia Beach Correctional Facility without bond, the news release said.

Brown has been charged in connection with the death of Marcus L. Clayton, 44, of Virginia Beach. Clayton was found shot and lying on the pavement in the 5000 block of Gela Drive on Sept. 13.

Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Virginia Beach police are still investigating the shooting, said Adam Bernstein, spokesman.
