Poll shows dead heat between Obama, McCain in Va., N.C.

A new poll by Winthrop University and South Carolina Educational Television shows a statistical dead heat between Barack Obama and John McCain in Virginia and North Carolina.

The poll gathered data from 2,026 likely voters in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina between Sept. 28 and Oct. 19.

In Virginia 44.6 percent of respondents said they would vote for Obama if the election were held today, while 43.6 percent would vote for McCain. In North Carolina the numbers were almost the same, with 44.6 percent for Obama and 44.2 percent for McCain. In South Carolina McCain was ahead, 55.1 percent to 34.9 percent for Obama.
