Phillip Sims ensured that No. 1 Oscar Smith celebrated their homecoming in record fashion as he broke the school record for TD passes in a game, formerly held by Greg Boone and Dexter Merritt, with 6 as the Tigers (7-0, 6-0) roared past King’s Fork.
Perry Jones, Tim Smith and Daniel Vaughn each had 2 TD receptions. Smith finished with 4 catches for 125 yards and his first was a 52-yard TD on the game’s second play. Sims finished with 292 yards passing.
Perry Jones not only contributed to the shutout by suffocating the Bulldogs (3-4, 2-4) offense, but he also added 73 yards of total offense and 3 TDs. The Bulldogs failed to reach mid-field until the 3rd quarter.

#5 Indian River 14, Deep Creek 7
Van Dyke Jones rushed for 2 TDs and a career high 190 yards, with 127 coming in the second half, to lead the Braves (5-2, 5-1) past visiting Deep Creek for their fourth consecutive win.
Ryan Rowe’s defensive performance gave the Braves the lead in the first quarter. Rowe scooped up a bad snap returning it 18 yards to the Hornet 1-yard line where Jones scored thereafter.
Then with the Hornets (1-6, 1-5) threatening to tie the game late in the first half, Rowe intercepted a tipped Kameron Stewart pass to bring the drive to a halt at the Braves 10-yard line.

#6 Western Branch 17, Hickory 0
The Bruins scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to break open a surprisingly close game against the visiting Hawks.
De Marta’ Johnson, starting at quarterback for Michael Brown, threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Darren Roberts with 10:21 left in the game. Travis Paige added a 2-yard touchdown later in the fourth quarter.
Western Branch (6-1, 5-1) did not allow Hickory (1-6, 1-5) to cross into Bruins territory, holding the Hawks to one yard in the second half.
Hickory made two fourth-down stops inside the Hawks’ 5-yard line to stay within 3-0 after three quarters.

Lakeland 47, Nansemond River 12
Powered by Cedric Johnson, Lakeland dominated the second half, outscoring the visiting Warriors 27-0 in the final two quarters.
Johnson rushed for 207 yards on 19 carries and scored Lakeland’s only touchdown in the third quarter. Before Johnson crossed the goal line, Nansemond River (1-6, 0-6) was holding its own. But soon after Johnson sprinted nine yards into the end zone, Lakeland (3-4, 3-3) took control of the ball and the clock.
The Warriors would gain only two first downs after halftime. Lakeland quarterback Neil McKoy, meanwhile, would throw for as many touchdowns in the fourth quarter to break the game wide open.
