SUFFOLK

A woman took photos of her two children and sent them to a friend via cell phone after binding them with duct tape and threatening to kill them, police say.

Takiyah Wright, 25, of the 600 block of Hillpoint Blvd., is charged with two felony counts of child abuse and neglect and two counts of abduction.

According to a news release from Suffolk spokeswoman Debbie George, a friend of Wright’s notified authorities Sunday after getting phone and text messages saying Wright was going to kill her children, ages 3 and 1, and put them in a garbage bag. The photos pictured the children with duct tape around their hands and over their mouths, according to a Suffolk news release. They were not injured.

The children were removed from the home by Child Protective Services .

Wright had worked as a teacher assistant at Elephant’s Fork Elementary School since September 2007, the news release said. She had passed a background check, and her evaluations were “exemplary.”

Wright was placed on administrative leave without pay following her arrest, the news release said. Suffolk Public Schools spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw said the division would have no further comment .

Wright was taken to Western Tidewater Regional Jail, where bond was set at $10,000.
