PORTSMOUTH

A 17-year-old hit-and-run victim has died, and police are keeping mum about what they’re learning from examining the car they believe struck her and two other teens in Churchland a week ago.

Police through a city spokeswoman Wednesday confirmed only that one victim had died. WVEC-TV identified her as Onika Elliott. She was a new student this year at Churchland High School, said Sharon Harris, school division spokeswoman.

Two others, a boy also 17 and a 16-year-old girl, were less seriously injured. They were hit the evening of Oct. 1 while standing next to a car on Peachtree Lane West at Greenleaf Trail that was sideswiped by a driver who kept on going.

Police this week found a dark-blue BMW that they said they believe struck the three.

Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake, where one of the students attends, is offering a $2,500 reward to whoever identifies the driver, said Jamie Booker, the church’s administrative assistant.
