The next few days will see even greater disparities between daytime and nighttime temperatures.
The National Weather Service in Wakefield forecasts temperatures today in the low 80s, Tuesday in the mid 80s. But at night, areas in the westernmost reaches of Hampton Roads could see temperatures dip into the 40s and 50s. Norfolk saw a high of 72 degrees Sunday.
Drivers will see patchy fog during this morning's commute, the weather service says.
The warmer weather will be thanks to the migration of a high-pressure system moving east. The Midwest has seen near-record highs in the past several days. Sunday, even in the throes of autumn, Chicago saw a high of 84 degrees. Minneapolis was in the high 70s.
The chance of rain until Thursday: Zero, said Larry Brown, a National Weather Center meterologist in Wakefield.
"This is about as sure a thing as you can say around here," said Brown of the promise of clear skies.
