NORFOLK

Several stars of the HBO series “The Wire” will visit Norfolk on Saturday as part of the “Vote to Empower!” bus tour organized by the National Urban League.

A second celebrity tour, this one featuring hip hop artists, also will make a public appearance.

Actors Wendell Pierce, Sonja Sohn, Michael K. Williams and Jamie Hector will appear at an 8:30 a.m. leadership summit hosted by the Hampton Roads Committee of 200+ Men at the Murray Center, 455 E. Brambleton Ave. At 1 p.m., they’ll attend a tailgate party and homecoming football game at Norfolk State University.

The Urban League, a nonpartisan group, said in a news release that it organized the tour in Virginia to boost voter turnout and ensure that the voices of all voters, especially those in urban areas, are heard.

The Hip Hop Caucus’ “Respect My Vote!” tour also will appear at Norfolk State for the homecoming parade and football game.

It’s due back in the area Monday for a noon forum and 3 p.m. concert at Hampton University.

Empowerment

I am empowered, NOBAMA, Vote McCain. even my kids will be wearing that tee shirt, because they WANT to... rotflmao

I resent

that ANY political agenda is made a part of a PUBLIC school like NSU. Where is the equal time for the "Straight Talk Jive Express"?

????

Who cares? They should just stick to doing what they do best and that's entertain and NOT get into politics! Just like all those actors and actresses like spewing forth their agendas...who cares what they think? If they really want to help, they could start sharing all their millions with the rest of us.
