You have to love Dolly Parton

So as we mentioned the other day, we got up super early to talk with Dolly Parton the other week. Everybody knows homegirl is totally outrageous and funny, and when we spoke the other day she did not disappoint.

We're thrilled to know that ours was one of very, very few interviews Dolly did in advance of her upcoming tour, which comes to the Constant Center Nov. 6; everyone else had to email her their questions, which she responded to via a CD in the mail. (Diva!) Anyway, the full interview will run in the Pilot closer to the show, but here are some highlights. I wish you could hear how sugary and sweet her voices sounds, and both of us laughing in the background..

Me: So Dolly, in what ways do you stay young and in shape? These tours have to be grueling.

Dolly: ...I don’t have time to get old either. I have enough stuff to do. Of course I’ve got good doctors if I need a little nip and tuck here and there. I got Botox and collagen and Juvederm and anything new that comes out, I’m into that too. I’ll see something on TV and say, ‘Oh ****, I’m gonna do that! Ohh, I gotta look into that!’

Me: You’re known to be a very open and accepting person of people from all backgrounds. But some of the words you use, like "Dixie" and "backwoods" don’t neccesarily have the most positive connotations for everybody. Do you think people have misconceptions about people from the rural South?

Dolly: I’m a hillbilly. I can call myself a hick I can call myself my people hillbillies and hicks because that’s what we are...But I am accepting of all people. I don’t care who you are or what you are, if you’ve got something to offer as a human being; God judges us by the intent of our heart and by our deeds and I’ve just never been one to judge and criticize other people for whatever. I’m not a racist. I don’t care if you’re black or white or green or blue as gray as an alien, or if you’re gay or straight or bisexual or whatever. Whatever you are, be that and be good. If you’re comfortable with yourself, you’ll be productive, and you add to mankind and society and find some happiness for yourself.

How can you not love this chick? Check the Pilot and pilotonline for the full interview.

Shame on You!

Seriously, how can you be so disrespectful - calling Dolly Parton a chick? You should be ashamed of yourself!
