VIRGINIA BEACH

Funeral services are scheduled for this afternoon for two of the three Green Run High School students killed Friday in a car crash on a rural stretch of Salem Road.

A 1 p.m. service for Adam R. Sherman, 17, will be held at the Smith and Williams Funeral Home's Kempsville Chapel, 4889 Princess Anne Road. After the service, the burial will be at Colonial Grove Cemetery, 3445 Princess Anne Road.

A 3 p.m. service for Matthew C. Kirkbride, 18, will be held at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home's Lynnhaven Chapel, 3600 Virginia Beach Blvd.

Sherman, Kirkbride and Joseph Jenkins, 17, were seniors at Green Run High School and also attended Virginia Beach Technical and Career Education Center. They had just left the center Friday afternoon when their Volkswagen sedan slid out of control on the wet pavement on the 2700 block of Salem Road and into the path of a van. All three teens were killed in the crash.

Police said Monday that speeding and rain were factors in the crash. They also said the driver, Kirkbride, was not wearing a seatbelt, but the two passengers were.

A funeral service for Jenkins is scheduled for noon Wednesday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home's Bayside Chapel, 1457 Independence Blvd. The burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. in Norfolk.
