It's official: Nye defeated Drake by 13,371 votes in 2nd District

In the final analysis, Democrat Glenn Nye unseated incumbent U.S. Rep. Thelma Drake, R-Norfolk, by almost 13,400 votes.

That tally was certified by the State Board of Elections on Monday, nearly three weeks after voters cast ballots in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District race and other Nov. 4 contests.

Nye, a political newcomer and former foreign service officer, received 141,857 votes. Drake, a two-term incumbent and former member of the Virginia House of Delegates, collected 128,486 votes.

By the State Board of Elections count, Nye, 34, carried every locality in a district, which includes Virginia Beach, parts of Norfolk and Hampton, and all of Accomack and Northampton counties.

Drake initially declined to concede the race, pending the tabulation of nearly 27,000 absentee ballots. She later acknowledged defeat in a written statement dated Nov. 6.

Voted for you. Bet a few months from now you'll be glad you didn't win re-election....maybe you are already.
