WASHINGTON
Virginia is bringing out its big guns in a battle with Florida over the homeport of a Navy aircraft carrier.
Gov. Tim Kaine, U.S. Sens. John Warner and Jim Webb and Sen.-elect Mark Warner have scheduled a meeting with reporters Thursday morning to discuss – and presumably denounce – the Navy’s plan to shift a Norfolk-based carrier to Mayport Naval Station, near Jacksonville.
The Navy announced tentative plans on Monday to spend nearly $500 million on pier improvements and other facilities needed to accommodate one of five Atlantic Fleet carriers at Mayport.
The Navy has said that Navy Secretary Donald Winter will make a final decision on the plan before leaving office in January. The Virginia lawmakers are expected to press him to keep all five carriers in Norfolk or to defer a decision to the incoming administration of President-elect Barack Obama.

Sounds like a good deal to me
If they get the corresponding jets from Oceana too. And Chris, the carriers are in Norfolk, not Virginia Beach.
No need to resort to immature personal attacks
I was merely pointing out the goal of Barack Obama to "spread the wealth around" and it's too bad if someone else doesn't like it. You don't know who I voted for. And if you think that a critical looks at Barack Obama should magically disappear now that the election is over, well, you need to check what's in your sippy cup. The FUN is just getting started.
Tax dollars wasted??? Not by a long shot
The Navy is smart. They're embracing the efforts of Barack Obama to "spread the wealth around."
$500 million dollars wasted
The Navy wants to waste $500 million dollars of our money to move a carrier from Virginia Beach to Jacksonville. No wonder we have a $500 billion dollar budget deficit.
