King's Dominion to open new Ferris wheel in spring

Warm up those vocal chords. Kings Dominion wants to get a few more screams out of you next year.

Flashback to the carnival days with Americana, a 110-foot-tall Ferris wheel. The park’s first Ferris wheel sends riders on a spin in a six-seat gondola. The ride can hold 144 passengers.

While you’re there, hop in the ''El Dorado.'' The wheels on the 1950s blue convertible aren’t made for driving, though. Instead, the 40-passenger car rotates like a pendulum. Before the road trip is over, thrill-seekers will find themselves 85 feet in the air.

Both rides are in the park’s Grove area.
