Michael Vick’s bankruptcy attorneys said in court papers this week that the former NFL star has “every reason to believe” he will resume his football career after his release from prison.

The papers were filed before a court hearing today in which Vick’s attorneys said they are close to resolving his bankruptcy case despite the problems they have had unraveling his finances over the past several months.

“It’s whack-a-mole. It’s whack-an-issue,” Vick lawyer Paul Campsen told U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Frank Santoro.

Campsen said his team will soon question Charles Reamon Jr., a close Vick associate and the nephew of his former high school coach, about what he did with $3 million of Vick’s money in the two years before Vick filed for bankruptcy protection in July. Reamon had permission from Vick to disperse the money to Vick’s family, but so far not all of it has been accounted for, Campsen said.

In a disclosure statement filed Wednesday, lawyers for Vick said the Newport News native still has a contract with the Atlanta Falcons but needs to be reinstated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to satisfy his contractual obligations and play again.

“The Debtor has every reason to believe that upon his release, he will be reinstated into the NFL, resume his career and be able to earn a substantial living,” they wrote.

Vick is serving a 23-month prison sentence in Leavenworth, Kan. He pleaded guilty last year to a federal conspiracy charge involving an interstate dogfighting operation he helped run on property he owned in Surry County.

Vick is scheduled to be transported from federal prison to plead guilty on Nov. 25 to two state charges in Surry County. The charges, one for dogfighting and another for animal cruelty, are not expected to add to his jail time.

Vick is scheduled to be released on July 20 from federal prison, but his attorneys hope to get him released several months earlier to a federal halfway house program. Vick must take care of the state charges before he can enter the program.

In the bankruptcy case, Judge Santoro ordered Vick to be present for two matters on Jan. 15 and 16. One is a confirmation hearing on Vick’s proposed reorganization plan to repay his creditors. The other is a trial to appoint a trustee to help Vick untangle his finances. The Office for the U.S. Trustee wants the trustee appointed, but Vick’s lawyers oppose the motion.

could lead 1 2 believe that the Bush twins shouldn't be allowed to work in their chosen fields, (1 is an educator), or that their Dad, W, should have been allowed to be Governor of Texas, owner of a major league ball club, & especially not President of the USA. These people all had problems with the law due to their illicit drug use & underage drinking. Strom Thurmond raped a 15yr old girl & wasn't even charged. Ryan Frederick shot & killed an officer of the law in the performance of his duties yet people are crying "free Ryan". If any of you believe these people deserved or deserve now, a 2nd chance, why not Vick? Why the double standard?

I agree with your comments to not watch "bad" people play ball or watch them. Most importantly..NOT REWARD them for BAD behavior. I will take exception to void yourself of all contact. My grandson who is 16 will play in the MLB. He has values, to help others, is a Christian and who will make a difference in baseball. Little kids are already looking up to him as a good role model just not another great player. He is just a regular guy who goes out to make it happen for himself and others. Please
keep this in mind as he stands tall and makes for a GOOD role model. Hope you see him one day. You will know when you do. Don't give up on the good ones as they are still here and just don't get the great attention they deserve and their sport deserves.

whick elected officials?

"If we keep electing officals that admit to drug problems, that have DUIs, that have DWIs, or are friends with terriost organizations, this country will fall down to the level of some of the poorest third world countrys."

Maybe you know something I don't, but what elected officials are friends of terrorist?
Not trying to change the subject, but get some information.

Should Mike Vick Return to NFL

The answer is absolutely NOT! Michael Vick and Marcus Vick were both provided opportunities of a lifetime. They both were provided hansom salaries and all they had to do was play football and follow some rules based on morality and respect. Both failed to follow these rules and both are no longer playing in the NFL. Remember when the NFL allowed Marcus Vick back into the NFL and you see how far this got him. Allowing Michael Vick back into the NFL is setting a poor example and others playing football believe they are above the law and answer to no one based on the Vicks' performance.

As far as the other people that have DUIs, DWIs, etc., the people of the United States placed these people in these positions. And, this is the reason why this country is in the position it is in. If we keep electing officals that admit to drug problems, that have DUIs, that have DWIs, or are friends with terriost organizations, this country will fall down to the level of some of the poorest third world countrys.

In summary, let's hold our heads high and set examples for our childern and hold athletes, movie stars, public officials and our elective officials responsible for their actions.

I'm glad my children are adults

I'm glad my children are adults because we hear so much about professional sports thugs that to be a parent with young kids would really be hard to keep them from seeing all this and thinking it's okay. What kind of role models are they providing? When it comes to the Vick boys I swear it just beats all. Constantly in trouble, have far too much money to pay their way out, and still they have no respect for authority. What happened to these guys? What went wrong in their lives to make them think they are above the law? What kind of kids were they growing up? Did they have parent(s)? When I see or hear about people like this I just sit nback and wonder, why?

Thank God I don't even like football, but I sure as heck would not support a team with this kind of player, and I don't care if he has done his time. So sayeth Gertz!

jimjones

Why not? We've had former Klansmen as Supreme Court Justices & US Senators. We had a child rapist who served as Governor of SC & later US Senator from SC for decades.

VICK

He will play again cause he hired some good lawyers. Maybe some sorry team with no morrals(that would be most of them) will only pay him $500 a week, he is not smart enough to handle money, all the money he was paid and he still has nothing so pay him nothing, he will be just as well off if he was getting a big check and less likely to get in trouble. All he wants is to play football so let him play. I don't watch football and the high priced thugs that are involved.

Yeah ok Mike

Sorry. You are still a vicious dog killer and abuser. No second chances for you. Surely, the NFL can find a QB (or whatever position you played) who is humane. What were you thinking????

I agree w/twomiler

Dogs ARE more important to some people--I'll never understand why though...Vick paid his dues; he should be left alone now...

Vic has paid his dues to society

Sooo ...

He should be able to play in the NFL.
He should be able to vote.
He should be able to buy a gun.
and
He should be able to open a doggie daycare

Right?
