An estimated 60 people, coming and going, hula hooped on Granby Street on Saturday to support Pamela Brown, the woman known for hula hooping almost daily on a Granby Street median near Wards Corner. Brown, who uses a radio to play music as she hula hoops, was arrested by Norfolk police on Oct. 11 after a noise complaint.
She was stunned repeatedly with a Taser and spent a weekend in jail on charges of assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and excessive noise, police said .
The point of Saturday’s gathering, organizer Laurie Harper said, was simple: “This was nothing against the police. … It was to let Pamela know that she was accepted in the community, that she’s a part of the community and has people that care about her and support her.”
