VIRGINIA BEACH

A 19-year-old pregnant woman who was struck by a stray bullet was listed in stable condition at a local hospital today, police said.

The woman, who is eight months pregnant, was shot in the upper torso at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, Virginia Beach police spokesman Adam Bernstein said. The bullet was fired during a robbery in the apartment complex parking lot in the 300 block of Wexford Drive, and it traveled through the apartment wall and the woman’s bed before hitting her, Bernstein said. The unborn child did not appear to be harmed, he said.

The robber stole money from a man taking out trash and fired the shot before fleeing. He was described as a black man wearing a blue bandanna and black sweatshirt and black pants.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (1-888-562-5887).
