Republican activist to run for state attorney general

RICHMOND

Dave Foster, a former member of the Arlington County School Board and a longtime Republican activist, announced his candidacy Wednesday for Virginia attorney general.

He pledged to work for "common-sense conservative principles" and called for expansion of the attorney general's power to investigate misuse of public dollars. Foster said he is opposed to abortion and gay marriage.

Foster, a lawyer, becomes the third Republican to enter next year's attorney general race. Also running are state Sen. Ken Cuccinelli of Fairfax County and John Brownlee, a former U.S. attorney for the Western District of Virginia.

The GOP will decide the nomination at a state convention. The general election is Nov. 3, 2009.

Dave Foster doesn't get it

He's running on the same old tired conservative principles that even republicans are tired of listening too, and this is a man who wants expansion of the attorney general's power. Good luck with all that!
