I'm currently in Cuba...
So there was only one person on the ballot, Castro... Guess what, he won...
The voting is not over for the Bush administration.
We have taken a vow not to spend one cent on anything we don't have to buy such as food or gas until the Obama/Biden administration is sworn in. Bush’s ‘rebates’ of our own future tax refunds and his pleas to go shopping show the importance of consumer spending to the legacy of Republican economics. Bush hijacked the country for the benefit of the wealthy for eight years. Let the wealthy keep the Bush economy going for the next three months until the Republicans are flushed in disgrace. Learn about and patronize your smaller locally owned businesses and pay cash so it's under the radar of statistics. We're hoarding our spending until the Obama Administration when the recovery can begin.
Obama !!
Republicans have had the White House for the last 8 years - now let's see what happens with Obama in office for 8 years !
Obama's acceptance speach was incredible, and I also thought McCain's was very well done also. I have always liked McCain actually. I think he is a good man, but I think he sold himself out, conformed to what others wanted, and made a bad choice in choosing Palin. He should have stayed true to who he is. But, I still don't think he could have won, because of Bush.
By the way, looks like voters, being concerned about long lines, either voted early, absentee voted, or voted first thing in the morning. Of course we have heard about 2-6 hour wait times in hampton roads. I voted at the baptist church on Potters Rd. @ 4:50 pm. I had absolutely no wait !! None ! I asked them, where is the 2 hour line ? They said, "it left earlier." I do, however, think I will vote absentee next time just because of the unpredictability. I fully planned on a 2-4 hour wait yesterday evening.
Westin
I enjoyed watching the returns in the lobby of the Westin Hotel. Everybody was most respectful. When Obama was announced the
president-elect, the crowd went absolutely crazy! I have never seen anything like this in my life. I hope that we will remain prayerful for Barack Obama, and this great nation that we serve! It was a wonderful and memorable experience.
Super fast!
I knew the lines would be very long in the morning and late afternoon, so I decided to go at 1pm! From entering the doors to getting my "I voted" sticker the entire process took 6 minutes!!! My drive from work and back took longer than voting did! Thanks to the workers at Deer Park Elemetary!
5 hour wait
I voted at Bowling Elementary on Princess Anne in Norfolk. I arrived at 8:15 AM and left at 1 PM. 4 hours and 45 minutes!!
Worth the wait
Arrived at Poplar Halls Elementary (Norfolk) school @ 5:45 a.m. and thought I was early. (Later, heard the first voter had arrived at 3:30 a.m. to line up before the doors opened at 6.) By 10:05 a.m., I had finished voting for the just the three offices (approx. 1 min.), one of which was unopposed. As I left, I saw people who were lined up well behind where I started 4.5 hours earlier, so can only imagine how long they'll wait. But, everyone was very civil the entire time; folks of all parties and races and economic conditions treated each other cordially, respectfully and with good humor. P.s. Thank you to poll workers for keeping positive and working hard.
Voting today
Western Branch has it going on! I voted at Point Harbor church on Taylor Road. We waited right at an hour (less than I expected). Everyone was very friendly. My son was with me and this is his first time voting; they were very helpful. It was very organized! We also got to know some of our neighbors standing in line. It is so great to see such a turn-out and people taking a stand for our country!
I Voted at Ocean Lakes Elementary at 10 am
When all was said and done, it took me 40 minutes to vote. Not bad. My last name starts with W, so that's why, though. People with beginning and middle of the alphabet last names had a WAY longer wait. For once in my life, having a last name at the end of the alphabet gave me an advantage!
First Amendment Prevails
A fellow Tidewater Libertarian and I went together to our respective polling places in Norfolk and Chesapeake wearing our Tidewater Libertarian Party T-shirts and Bob Barr 08 and 'Stop Eminent Domain Abuse' buttons to test the State Board of Elections rule prohibiting apparel supporting a candidate or political position. We expected to be turned away, per the SBE press releases, and thus gain standing to take legal action to strike the rule.
We voted without incident, and, apparently struck by a mass outbreak of hysterical blindness, the election officials were apparently unable to see our apparel at all, as none of them commented or took any visible notice.
The lesson to take from this, it would seem, is that those who are willing to take risks to assert their rights keep their rights while the meek do not.
