Trend on absentee ballots runs against a win for Drake

Posted to: News U.S. House Elections Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH

U.S Rep. Thelma Drake, who’s trailing challenger Glenn Nye as city officials work to tally the absentee ballot votes, would need about two out of three of those votes to win.

Nye has claimed victory, and Drake has declined to concede.

While not impossible, a Drake victory would require absentee voters to have voted much differently than people who voted on Election Day. Voters who cast ballots Tuesday favored Nye 51.6 percent 48.3 percent.

“Generally, the absentee split is a mirror of the split on Election Day,” said Quentin Kidd, a political scientist at Christopher Newport University. “I don’t know what systematic difference in absentee voters she would be banking on to get two votes for every three.”

Currently, Nye has 123,707 votes and Drake has 115,791. There are 26,778 absentee votes remaining to be tallied in Virginia Beach and an estimated 2,500 in Norfolk, for a total of 29,278.

To win, Drake would need to capture 18,598 of those votes, or 63.5 percent.

Election records from 2004 and 2006, years that Drake won, show that absentee voters did not favor Drake at a significantly higher percentage than other voters.

why?

Make fun, call names, belittle the process that Soldiers have and continue to die for. Why??

Every vote counts. Count every vote.

Just like a pesky Real Estate Agent.

She won't give up until the money is pulled from under her feet. Bite Barney Bite, We won't give in to those demoncrats tryin to take our house!

All Votes Count

What is the fear about having all votes counted? Who cares if it will change the outcome or not, the people that voted absentee should be counted as every American should. No one should discount any vote until all are counted. I can only imaging the court actions if the democrat was on the trailing end, and people were saying forget the absentee.

To boblakeman

By the way, Sarah Palin can also see Zimbabwe from her house!

Throw in the towel now!

Come on Drake, it is time to concede. Your done, finished, through. You always have been and always will be against the military and the blue collar work force of America. Be a good little lady republican and surrender. It is over.

Many of these votes are from

The EARLY voters who would obviously FAVOR Obama and his Democratic team... It's silly to assume that they are mostly active duty this year...Buh Bye Thelma!
I do feel bad that she refused to concede when she would have at least been able to save SOME face... Now the egg will be all over her! Too bad!

No Child Left Behind

How long does it take to count 26,000 ballots? This is absurd to not have the ballots counted two days after the election. Election results are quicker than this in Zimbabwe, which for Sarah Palin fans is in the continent of Africa.

Give it up, Thelma

Your day in the sun is past and it's time to move on.
Backbiting and mindless politicking sometimes catches up, ja?
