VIRGINIA BEACH
Two people were hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning after a house fire in the 700 block of 26th Street early Monday morning.
The fire broke out in a heating and air conditioning unit in the basement after 5 a.m., according to Battalion Chief Dave Hutcheson. He did not know the victims' conditions.
The house did not have working smoke or carbon monoxide detectors, he said.
"We urge everyone to get these detectors installed and make sure they work, especially this time of year," Hutcheson said.
The fire is under investigation.
