Virginia's recycling rate up slightly last year, state report says

Posted to: Environment News Virginia

Virginia’s recyling rate improved slightly between 2006 and 2007 and remains well above the national goal, the state Department of Environmental Quality said Monday.

In Virginia, 38.5 percent of municipal and other solid wastes were recycled in 2007. That was up from 38.4 percent in 2006 and exceeds the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s national goal of 35 percent by 2010, a statement from DEQ said.

Virginia’s data came from reports submitted by 74 solid-waste planning regions, the statement said.
