VIRGINIA BEACH

A 54-year-old woman died early Thursday morning after a pickup truck hit her SUV from behind as it was stopped on Military Highway following an earlier traffic accident.

The woman was standing in front of the vehicle with the hood up at the time.

According to police the first traffic incident happened just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Military Highway and Providence Road when a woman driving a 1996 Isuzu Trooper rear-ended another vehicle. Neither driver was injured, police said.

After the two drivers stopped and exchanged information, the driver of the Trooper could not get it started again. While she stood in front of the Tropper with the hood up a 1995 Ford F150 pickup truck hit the Trooper from the rear, causing it to run over her, police said.

Police identified the driver of the Trooper as Faye Ann Hinton, of the 2300 block of Barre St in Norfolk. She died several hours after the crash at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

According to police no charges had been filed in the crash, which is under investigation.
