Staff report

Portland goalie Jhonas Enroth stopped 31 shots as the Pirates cooled off the Norfolk Admirals 2-1 Wednesday at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine. The loss snapped Norfolk's season-high four-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, the Admirals (13-17-1-4, 31 points) continued to excel at the disciplined defensive style that has launched their resurgence. But Enroth was too good on all but one shot, a drive off a rebound by Chris Gratton at

5:01 of the second period for the 16-year NHL veteran's first AHL goal and a 1-0 Norfolk lead. Later in the period, a Portland power-play goal - only the third allowed by the Admirals in 38 tries - tied it. Portland's Trent Campbell got game-winner with less than three minutes left in the period.

Portland (19-11-1-2, 41 points) held Norfolk's power play, ranked second in the AHL, without a goal in four attempts, and denied Norfolk's Steve Downie, who had five shots but was held without a point for the first time in nine games.
