Two people were saved by the Coast Guard this weekend after their boat caught fire in Roanoke Channel near Wanchese, N.C.

A Coast Guard crew near the area on Saturday and spotted smoke, a Coast Guard news release said. The crew went to the scene to find the 43-foot sport fishing boat ablaze.

The crew pulled the two people from the boat just before it was consumed by fire.

A 47-foot rescue boat also went to the scene to keep other boats away from the burning vessel, the Coast Guard said.

Mariners were being urged to use caution in the area of the burned boat because two to three feet of boat, which sank, remain above water, the Coast Guard says. The boat is not in the navigable channel.
