Friday's boys hoops: Parker powers King's Fork to rout of Nansemond River

King's Fork 78, Nansemond River 64

The No. 1 Bulldogs (7-0, 6-0) made their first six shots from the field and built a 14-point halftime lead en route to routing their Southeastern District and crosstown rival Friday night.

They increased the margin to 18 in the third quarter and seventh-ranked Nansemond River (5-2, 4-2) didn’t recover.   

Jaquon Parker contributed a game-high 28 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while teammate Devante Gardner added 15 points and eight rebounds.

 

Norcom 61, Salem 33

The No. 2 Greyhounds (7-1) humbled previously unbeaten host Salem (6-1), bolting to a 29-15 halftime lead in the non-district match-up.

Deshawn Williams paced Norcom’s balanced attack with 13 points, while sophomore Dorian Finney-Smith added 11.

 
Atlantic Shores 78, Green Run 41

Oklahoma recruit Steven Pledger scored 23 points and Duke-bound Andre Dawkins added 17 as the No. 4 Sea-hawks (6-1) pummeled its Beach District foe on the road.

The victors used a 12-2 run in the third quarter to break open the game .

 

Benedictine 57, Norfolk Collegiate 53

The Richmond hosts (5-2), ranked fifth in state independent school Division 1, downed the No. 10 Oaks (4-2) despite 25 points, 13 rebounds and six assists from Donte Hill.

Darien Brothers led the victors, who trailed 28-25 at halftime, with 16 points.

 

Bishop Sullivan 48, Portsmouth Christian 45

Drayton Blount hit the game-winning 3 with 12 seconds left to propel the Crusaders past the Patriots for the Portsmouth Christian Holiday tournament title.

Tom Hickey, the tournament MVP, had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Blount finished the game with seven points.

 

Maury 77, Kempsville 29

Freshman Jamal Ferguson had a team-high 16 points, while Sim Frazier recorded 12 points and 12 assists for the Commodores (3-4).

Maury’s 19-0 run in the first quarter doomed the host Chiefs.

 

Hickory 63, Grassfield 50

Senior Jordan Griggs scored a career-high 25 points as the Hawks evened   their record at 4-4.

Guards Anthony Schofield and Brett Pearman combined for 13 assists.
