Hampton U. band to march in Inaugural Parade

Posted to: Education Elections Hampton News

Hampton University's band, "The Force," has been selected as one of three Virginia groups to march in the Inaugural Parade on Jan. 20, event organizers announced Monday.

Close to 1,400 groups, bands, musical acts and drill teams submitted applications, and most included recordings, which were reviewed by the Presidential Inaugural Committee, military musicians and others.

The parade, which follows the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden, will travel from the U.S. Capitol, along Pennsylvania Avenue, to the White House.

The T.C. Williams High School Army JROTC in Alexandria and the Virginia Military Institute Corps of Cadets in Lexington also were selected, according to event organizers.

Parade participants are responsible for paying for their own lodging and transportation, and Hampton University will begin fundraising for the trip. To donate, contact the university office of development at (757) 727-5356.

Response to "Oh Joys" Circus Comment

In response to Oh Joy's circus comment - the only circus act is the 8 year performance put on by the biggest clown of all G. W. Bush at the expense of the citizens of the United States of America. A second circus showing would have been the possibility of Palin within a short arms distance (no pun intended) of the presidency. As Americans, we are one and we are all suffering. Terminolgy such as "They'll be partying.. While the rest of us" doesn't sound very unified. Remember "United We Stand, Divided We Fall." During these trying times we must pull together and support Barack Obama whether or not he was your candidate of choice - He IS going to be our next president.

I'm sure

I'll bet the band at VMI don't think they'll be performing in a circus.

Oh joy

Every circus deserves a marching band! I'm glad they'll be partying it up while the rest of us figure out how to buy groceries w/the same check that pays the mortgage. Yay! Party on dude!

This whole event is a waste of money.

This whole event is a waste of money. People are loosing their jobs and going hungry and money is being spent on this opulence.
